Yesterday I was listening to CNN Headline News on the way home and they had a story about some mom who caught her nanny on a nannycam doing some, apparently, horrendous things to the baby. From what I could tell from the sputtering announcer, the nanny had picked the baby up by the 'onesie' and whirled it around 'like a sack of potatoes' and then also apparently she left the baby on the edge of the couch where it could have possibly fallen.
The mother said that when the nanny was confronted, she said something like she always handles babies this way, they can take it, babies are tough. The mom and the announcer were both quite indignant at this statement. They went on talking about how bad it was, about how this nanny had probably done it before, maybe damaging other babies etc etc.
At the tail end of the interview, the announcer asked her if the baby was ok. She said, fortunately the baby is fine, babies are pretty resilient.
I had to laugh. Not at the story, I did not see it but it sounded horrible enough. Of course I'd freak if it was my kid too. But to hear them get sputteringly angry because the woman said babies were tough, and then for her to turn around and say it was quite amusing. To me anyway.
Don't blast me for being cold, uncaring etc etc. This post isn't about the incident, it's just about the contradiction which I found amusing.
