Ok, I really need some help here Please. As some of you know I am currently in Iraq so it is hard for me to run out to the store to buy things. My XBOX 360 HD just up and died on me. I am looking at Amazon to get a new one and have a few questions before I buy. (hence the time constraint). Ok here is the skinny...

1. Will any HD size work with my my box? I have a regular 360 (not the elite or arcade or any of the special ones). Right now it is rocking the 20 Gb but I want to upgrade to the 120.

2. I read somewhere that the data transfer cables HAVE to come from MS now or they will not work properly. Is this true? I dont want to order one from Amazon just to have it show up here 10 -14 days later to find out that it will not work.

3. Am I missing anything else? I want to get everything I need as soon as possible. Mail over here is OK but I need to get the new HD and transfer all the data as soon as possible before I lose it all.

Thank you all in advance.

Batt

From what I just read, the 120 GB HD will work with any 360. The 120 GB from Microsoft comes with the Transfer cable, Transfer disk and some pre loaded junk. http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/xbox360/kb.aspx?ID=937280&lcid=103... And Thank You.

1.yes 2. have not tried, so not sure. But you could get one from MS on the xbox website for free..But the last I heard they were out of stock. Sorry about getting your hopes up on that. 3. Question if you HD went bad on your 360, how are you going to transfer stuff from a bad hd to a good hd. Maybe I did not understand that. Keep in mind the only thing you will need to transfer is game saves. If you downloaded anything from xbox (dlc, movies, music, etc.) you can re-download for free, they keep your entire history. It may not be as fast, but it is better then nothing.

1 - No. Not if you are planning on putting any retail drive in there. Unless things have changed since the MW2 360 came out, the mod community hasn't figured out(unless I missed that news item too) how to use more than 120GB on a bigger drive. 2 - Don't know. 3 - Like LB said. However, somethings do disappear from the marketplace, and can't be re-downloaded. SC

The hard drive has to be an xbox 360 drive from microsoft, not some off the shelf computer hard drive. So you have to get a 20, 60 or 120gb xbox 360 hard drive kit. As fro the transfer cable, some hard drive kits come with it, i think the 120 does anyway but i don't think the 60 does. Anyway you can get it direct from microsoft , you have to fill out a form and they'll send it to you. Microsoft is the only one that has a transfer cable with the transfer software so ya it guess it has to come from microsoft but it can be pre-packaged in the HDD kit or you can order it direct from MS.

One more thing, why do you need the xfer cable if your HDD fried? If your hdd is fried the xfer cable isn't going to do you any good.

My Son finished his 14 month tour in October and is stationed in Germany (ARMY). I'm assuming you and your buddies are sharing data, hence the transfer question. There are ways to install a few other HDDs, but that's a gamble, you may not want to have to play with, it would be a bitch having to return stuff from there. My advice, order the Microsoft 120GB that will come with everything you will need. Try EBay or any other place that sells new stuff cheap. Again, Thank you.
