Here is a conversation I had with my almost 3 year old

Me: So how was school (day-care) today

Kid: good

Me: So what did you do?

Kid: umm... umm. Played

Me: That's good. Were you good today?

Kid: umm... umm. Yeah

Me: Are you sure? What about the note?

Kid: I was in timeout.

Me: Yes, I saw that. Why were you in timeout?

Kid: umm... umm.

Me: Did you bite someone today?

Kid: YES ! (to enthusiastically)

Me: Who did you bite?

Kid: Rebecca (name changed to protect the victim)

Me: Why did you bite her?

Kid: Because she bit me. (I can't fault the logic but I have to be the parent)

Me: That is not nice to bite Rebecca. You don't bite back (while thinking.....yes you do and you make sure you draw blood, and make her never forget who pwned her)

Kid: But I bit her gently, daddy

Me: (trying not to laugh) You bit her gently?

Kid: Yes..

Me: (still trying not to laugh). umm... umm... umm... Next time tell the teacher and don't bite back. Ok?

Kid: Ok. daddy.

Me: (yeah right)

How can you fault that logic? She bit her gently.

Had somewhat similar situation with my boy in Kindergarten. Me: Don't hit. Son: Okay. 1 day later. Me: Why did you bite? Son: I didn't hit. 1 day later: Me: Why did you lick? Son: I didn't bite. Me: Why did you throw a rock and knock that kid off the jungle gym? Son: I didn't want to get close enough to hit, bite or lick, so threw a rock. At this point I had to go to see the teacher because these kids needed to be seperated and I was afraid the boy was running out of options! :)
