***SPOILER ALERT***This review will have minor spoilers

I saw James Cameron's half a billion dollar epic yesterday. I will say this movie is the most visually stunning movie I've ever seen! I saw it in IMAX 3D with the "Buddy Holly" glasses. It took me about 15-20min to get used to the glasses being over my prescription glasses. Several of the others in the theater were still fidgeting with thier's a good hour into it. The 3D effects while the "actors" were walking through the forest, the seed spores and insects seemed to fly right in the theater, and the ash after the fire was floating right in front of my face. I kept saying to my friends that I want my monitor to look like the ones in the film. I said "actor" earlier because all the aliens are CGI mo-capped. I completely forgot about this after about 30min into the movie. They just became other actors. Overall the new CGI and mo-cap tech are absolutely amazing! I sure hope the 3D and mo-cap tech makes it into the next gen of games and consoles.

Now on to the story, It's 'Dances with Wolves' in space. The aliens even ride horse like animals and shoot arrows. Throw in a bit of "Last Samurai", and you've got the story. It's not a bad story, it's just not a WOW! story. Almost every major plot point is massively foreshadowed, or is blatantly predictable. The Marine commander is a total streotype, and I find it hard to believe that in 2000 people only 5 scientist and 1 Marine pilot think it's wrong to commit genicide. Of course once again, technically they arn't Marines, they are contract soldiers for the evil corporation. Oh..and the evil corporation is after a mineral named "unobtainium", why not just call it "reallyraremetalium"?

The visuals more than make up for the minor story. I whole heartly recommend this movie, and if you have the 3D in your area, pay the extra couple of bucks, it's worth it!!

Can you take a 6 and 7 year old to it? My boys are bugging me to death to go see it.

@H2Daddy I would say yes, mild violence in the final fight scene, but not a lot of blood or gore.
