Shared on Sat, 08/23/2008 - 21:53So I'm sitting here, eating Oreo cookies n milk. (I know they're not batcakes, but they'll do :)
Went by the parent's house today, and decided to raid "The shelf". My family is a pack of...packrats. We keep everything. Terrible when you have no storage space, but awesome when it comes time for nostalgia. "The Shelf is known for holding all our old computer game boxes that we decided to keep, it also holds Manuals, game disks, and countless other things. (We actually have the user manual for DOS 6.22) I raided "The Shelf" looking for the old sierra boxes that I mentioned in my last blog, and boy did I hit a jackpot of sorts.
Six very classic PC games pictured here. King's Quest 2, King's Quest 3, King's Quest 4, Hero's Quest (now called Quest for Glory), Space Quest 1 and Space Quest 2.
These days, I find that box art isn't as good as these classics. You have a few that make it, such as Halo 3 and Bioshock. But nothing beats real paintings or some impressive use of realistic objects.
The Hero's Quest box makes this alone a great find. The game's name had to be changed because a board game of the same name (which we also owned) had come out just several months before this. The picture on this box is hilarious. [I apologize for it's blurriness, I had to take the pictures with my camcorder's still function] The lone small hero standing before a huge dragon, who has effortlessly bitten off half the hero's shield and decimated his sword. Not pictured is the load that the hero just dropped in his pants.
All in all, a nice collection, something I will hold on to for as long as I can. If you have never played the above games, I encourage you to check them out. They sell the collections at Amazon.com. Well worth the time. So many memories with these games.....however...that was not my greatest find.... :)
Found in a drawer by my mom, is ET The ExtraTerrestial for the Atari 2600. What is known as one of the Worst Video Games of All Time
I do remember playing this game as a little tyke, not really sure what I was doing, but would continually play the game over and over, it didn't have a realistic end to it, and I had no idea what was going on (I was 5)
So that's a blast from the past for today. I will send out a new Sierra Game of the Week mid next week.
Below is a link to the Album with close ups of each box.
