Shared on Sat, 02/09/2008 - 22:28I took a nap after I posted my last blog, to give me enough energy for the task ahead. No matter how long it took, I was going to finish Bioshock in that sitting. I had already a chapter or two (got to the point past where Atlas' sub blew up with his family in it) finished, but felt I was extremely close to getting to Ryan. I decided that I could do it in a night.
I napped until 7:00pm last night, then woke up and got to work. Downed an energy drink, turned down the lights...and fired up Bioshock.
and I gamed..and I gamed...I got to Ryan around 1:30, and watched that whole scene. I knew that something was up whenever I was actually allowed to kill Ryan, the cutscene does it for you. The twist was so great and well played out. I then knew that I was in for alot more work. But I kept on playing....and playing. i was play on medium difficulty.
5:30am rolls around. I'm tired and frustrating and just wanting to finish. The later levels provided very little ammunition, it got to a point where I had to wrench jockey it. That made me angrier. I finally got the end and fought the end boss. It took two retries before I got it. 6:15am...Bioshock finished.....medium difficulty...any sister encountered was saved....
I had played for 11 straight hours, and while the accomplishment was great...the ending was....not spectacular in Bioshock. Did they run out of time? It doesn't even explain how we escaped from Rapture....wasn't it falling apart? Ugh.....
Either way, the 11 straight hours with little to no breaks reminded me of younger years. My record is when I was 15, I played a MMORPG called "The Realm" for 15 straight hours. I look back on that time as being an indication of being addicted. These days, I never play that long because I am more responsible...but occasionally I will game for multiple hours. My next closest time was this past Thanksgiving holiday where I played Perfect Dark Zero from 6am until 3pm and finished it. I had never played it before and wanted to see what it was like (wasn't that great, but glad to have beat it)
Either way, Bioshock is done and I couldn't be happier to have it out of the way. It was a spectacular game with amazing visuals and even better atmosphere. So freaky. Whenever I thought "Ok, this particular way to scare me no longer works." they come along with a new way to freak me out. So great, can't wait to see the sequel or the rumored movie.
I can't wait to find a game that gives me a reason to go marathon again. Any Recommendations? what's your longest marathon gaming time?
