So I watched Beowulf last night. I had picked up a HDDVD copy about a month back and just now got around to watching it. What an amazing movie. In HD, it was unbelievably beautiful. The movie is graphic, there's not doubt about it, but I placed it's level of of violence on the same plane as Braveheart, which I enjoyed also. The character Grendel is seriously messed up, and reminded me of what it would be like if Freddy Kreuger and Gollum could somehow conceive (.......ew).

All in all, the movie was entertaining and a great interpretation of a story. I did have one complaint about the movie. And it was this:

If you have not seen Beowulf yet, but want to, I'm not spoiling anything for you...except a minor "what the...?" moment. The scene where Beowulf confronts Grendel was an awesome fight...except for the beginning. As beowulf prepares for battle, he goes to sleep while his men keep watch.....no bigge right? Except part of his preparation of includes stripping completely naked and laying on a stone cold floor (good grief man! didn't you mother ever tell you that's how you get hemmorroids?!)

Ok, good enough explanantion by Beowulf ("He has no sword, and I am not twelve feet tall....this way, we are equals) So Beowulf decides to fight Grendel barebutt naked and unarmed.

Yep...loco....

So I got past that quickly...no bigge...Beowulf is supposed to be a bad mofo, so that's a good way to represent it.

But for the next 10 to 15 minutes (the duration the fight)...the camera had to play the well known game of "Hide the penis" by doing specialized camera movements and placing objects in "convenient locations"....so what should have been an amazing battle (which it still was) and should have had my full attention onto the fight, had me laughing at the way they played "Hide the penis"...ugh....directors :)

Anyhoo, onto better business.

I was looking for my old iPod today when I came across my digital camera. I forgot about it awhile back, so popped some batterys into it and tried to take a picture....hmm...seems the gears in the lens have bound up...camera don't work no more. Crap.

I started doing some more digging...and found my Sony Cybershot of almost 5 years now...threw some batteries into it and it booted right up.

Wow....an 8 megapixel camera by Polaroid dies after one year....but a Sony Cybershot of 5 still rolls along. Imagine that.

I decided to take some pics of my new company toy. My boss decided to buy all the techs an EEEpc for disagnositc and switch configurations. We had mine for awhile as we demoed it. My boss told this week to keep it as it was now mine to use on the job.

So I brought it home to play with it for awhile.

The thing is friggin tiny. Here's a picture of it with my Nintendo DS sitting on the keyboard, for reference.

I like the concept of an ultraportable...the keyboard is small and hard to type on, but I'm getting used to it. The fact that it has wireless built in is good as well, turns it into a good email and remote machine. It comes preinstalled with Linux, but my company wanted XP so we could use it to manage Group Policy objects. It's a nice little machine for $400 dollars.

I finished Jumper last night as well. Let's just say the book comes full circle. I won't spoil it for anybody who wants to read it. It's a great book, and I would gladly read it again.

I'm moving onto a book called "Revenge!" by Robert Barr, we'll see how much I enjoy that.

Enjoy your saturday, I know I am.
