As this auto-posts Sunday morning on the HQ, I'm just minutes from home!! It's been a long, long week away from my beloved Effie, and my head cold still sucks, but everything will be awesome in just a few more minutes!! My Sweet Gal and I will be having our morning coffee, snug and warm together, as the grandkids start their 'hair-pulling and jumping about'. (Give you a dollar if you can name the movie that's from, lol! No cheating with Google, either...) Effie, baby, I love you!! It's good to be home!!
One of the news links in today's blog is a particularly epic looking screen cap from Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It made me somewhat wistful for my hardcore PC gaming days, when I was always hot to have the latest and greatest graphics card I could afford. Alas, those days are past (mostly), since it's just not possible, money or time-wise, for me to keep up with those advances. I have to stick to the consoles and a distinctly underpowered laptop, for now. Maybe, if my Sweet Gamer Gal and I are fortunate enough to retire, we might have the time and disposable income to do some hardcore gaming again. If they even have desktop computers by then, that is, lol...
Regarding my Valve/Steam issue, one nice bit of news: Steam remembered all my Half-life 2 game saves and my personal player config from November 2010! I dimly remember something about a cloud-based profile and game save system, but it was still a welcome surprise to install the game I'd bought on discs way back when (around 2004) without needing any of the original discs. Even more amazing was clicking on 'Load Game' and seeing all my game saves right there. I backtracked a teensy bit to avoid the unwinnable save point where I was getting pulverized by a Combine helicopter over and over and over, lol. The last most amazing thing of all was how smoothly Half-life 2 single player ran on my laptop and how clean and crisp (to me) the 1366x768 graphics looked on the HDMI connection to my old HDTV at the Albany pad. Moving on...
