A breakthrough!

So I was on my way to the river yesterday for a run and realized I had forgotten my watch. I have been running timed intervals as part of my training and this at first was a wee bit disconcerting. "No worries" I told myself. "I'll just run until I feel I can't run any longer". This as it turned out was a brilliant strategy! I ran farther yesterday (by a good bit) than I have so far since I've been back to running and started training for the marathon. It's small progress measured in mile and a half intervals over about an hour, but man oh man did it feel fantastic! I walked away thinking to myself "Wow, I'm really back to running. I'm doing it."

I may forsake the watch for a while and just go with the flow until I can't run any further. Damn the distance, and damn the time. Just keep running and I'm going to get there.

A pic of where I run.

Looks like a great spot. Some of favorite run days are when I intentionally leave the watch at home and just go. One thing I enjoy is driving somewhere I haven't really been, parking the car along a stretch of road, and just running. Don't pay much attention to where you go or how far or how long you have been running. Just go until you are tired and then start working your way back to the car. You'll see all kinds of stuff you wouldn't have normally. Mixing up the scenery makes it far less monotonous than running the same stretch day after day. (I have mountains and trails to my east and open country to my west, so I can pretty much pick and choose terrain depending on what I am after).

Nice!! Keep going. Used to run Xcountry in High school. 3.1 miles of hills and what not. It's funny, cause I can't hardly run after my daughter now-a-days. I keep saying I should start running again, but never get the motivation to do it.
