To have a night of successful pwnage it’s important to get in the right mindset and get your hands warmed up. I suggested social slayer, but others have made good points about better options. One suggestion is to head into an objective game. Here, slaying isn’t as important and you can spend more time focusing on your opponents without worrying about defending against already warmed up opposition. There’s still some resistance but its not as focused as a slayer match. Another option is to just open a map and start jumping around to the feel of your controls. Shooting at barrels or other objects will help get your timing down. I have actually downloaded some training maps that have all the weapon, grenade, and vehicle variants available. Fusion cores are shot out of man cannons for aiming practice. This is a great way to practice sniping skills as well as general warm up.
Here’s a couple links to training maps on Bungie.net

Stats!
There are tons of tools available for you to analyze yourself. Knowing yourself is more important than knowing your enemy. If you know you what you’re good at you can go to that whenever you’re down. More importantly, if you know what you’re bad at, you can compensate or improve. Bungie.net has some great stats that you can look at and think about. With the heat maps you can look at where you die, what you die from and the same with your kills. It should give you some ideas on what places to stay away from and what places to go to. Here's a couple other sites that I like to take a look at every once in a while:
Improving?
Someone was wondering how much I've been able to improve. Luckily, I found an chart I saved from halo3.junk.ws a few months ago that shows my old K/D. I'm not sure how accurate it is but here it is:

And here's the chart I see today:

The obvious change is that I have more kills. My headshot count has gone way up because I've been using the BR as much as possible. The most notable improvement is my assists, which shows that I'm playing more like a good teammate.
