They don't serve a real purpose so they often get ignored. It seems that only really skilled opponents even notice them. Since it takes no skill to blow them up, they provide a great advantage to the smart support player. First, you can take away kills from the other team by safely blowing them up at your defensive positions. Of course, make sure your team isn't near them first. Next, you can anticipate where your enemy is headed and use other cores to your advantage. I've mentioned stickies many times in previous blogs. This is where finding them makes the time worth while. All you need to do is pop out of cover, throw your sticky in the general vicinity of a fusion core and you'll have yourself a kill or two.
Some fusion cores of note:
The Pit -On either side of the invis hall. At start up, throw a grenade to land at the other side at about the time you'll be arriving at the cores on your side. This should place it to explode right on your foe. Shoot the cores on your side to avoid the same trap. Then, shoot the cores on the shotty side wall on your side of the base. Later, look for an enemy to be near those cores on their side.
Snowbound - Theres a few available but the best ones are on top of the bases. I've taken out a few BR and snipe wielding enemies with them.
Guardian - There's a power cell near both man cannon landings. Shoot them if your defending the spot or use them to your advantage if you're attacking. The corner of the hall from the gold room to the blue room has some power thingies on the wall. I've died many times attacking the gold room because I neglected to take them out first.
Last Resort - Froman has a bunch of cores. Don't even aim for bodies there, look for the cores first. Up the stairs to the catwalk there's a couple that snipers like to sit right in front of also.
This is another topic that seems very simple and obvious but since I've been taking note of them, I can't believe how little they're used. I think just being smart enough to avoid dying by them and getting an extra kill from them can be a big help.
