Fucking Dog

I have an 11 month old black lab.  I swear I love this dog but damnit, sometimes I feel like I could shoot him.  I know his behavior problems are my fault.  In reality, we don't have time for a dog. Especially an active dog like a lab.  With a 7 and a 9 year old, we are busy all the time.  Baseball just started. Playing on three different teams, practice with each of these teams.  Everyday life.  We are busy as crap.  The dog gets taken out back to his kennel in the morning before we leave.  He has dug the pen all to pieces.  I know, he is bored.  I am getting a concrete pad poured soon to fix this problem.  He moves a big ass dog house around all day.  Just moves it from corner to corner.  The problem now is his water bucket.  Five gallon bucket in the corner.  I took small clips and clipped the handle on both sides to each side of the kennel.  He finally just ripped the bucket off the handle and destroyed the bucket.  The other night, we were walking up to the house.  He is allowed to come in when we get home to hang out until bedtime.  At this point, he goes into his crate.  The other night he takes off and won't come back.  If the kids had not been home, I think I would have shot him.  Now I know it is all my fault.  He doesn't get the attention that he needs and I am trying to work on that.  Anybody else have a dog that they love that sometimes they would like to kill?

And to all you hippie Peta freaks, no, I am not going to shoot my dog.

We put the dog in a kennel too when we leave. At our old house the kennel was house on two sides then a large 8 foot fence and then i put a small 4 foot picket fence with a gate along the open side, so i only had to build one side basically. This worked fine for years. But then we moved and I went to Home depot and got a 6 foot tall chain link kennel. The pad is already concrete so i think we're good to go. I've had to deal with the dog getting out of that at least a dozen times. FIrst she pulled the door enough to disengage the latch because there's some flex in the door. So I put a metal plate on the bottom to prevent pulling, so then she just starts pushing. So i go and get a better latch that overhangs the pole so it can't disengage. Then she breaks the chain link clips on the door and makes a big ass hole. So i have to cut up some plywood and reinforce the bottom half of the door. days go by and finally teh fucking dog doesn't get out. THe one day, she's there at the door to greet me again. She's broken the chain link clips along the bottom of non door part of the wall. So i get some zipties and reinforce all four sides . Then somehow she chews a hole through the chain link, i have no freakin idea how and makes this 2 foot high by 3 foot long hole in the chainlink and crawls out. So now i'm back to the plywood, I cut a 3 food tall piece and secured it to the aluminum poles and then zip tied the top to the chain links. Finally the fuckign dog stays in there. but SERIOUSLY! Now she's too old to do that kind of shit so i'm done with the kennel drama. Anyway, have you thought about getting another lab? If you can't play with your dog, get it a play pal.

I had a crazy hyper German Wirehair Pointer that sounds much like yours. Tore everything to shreds. The dog could jump my 6' vinyl fence. It wasn't until I started taking the dog on runs with me that it normalized. Basically, I wore it out to the point where it was a calm dog. It's just boundless energy as well as boredom. If you don't have the time to take it on long enough walks (1-2 miles) everyday, I would seriously consider finding it a home. I'm not trying to criticize, but locking the dog in a kennel for as long as it sounds like you are will never end in a result that makes either you or the dog happy.

give it more exercise and a playmate. this has worked well for me in the past and I always have that kind of dog. once they mature, Labs are one of the best breeds to have with a family. great dogs. just got to get through the seemingly unlimited energy they have has a young dog.

I had a lab that nearly ate my entire house. He was a pup that got abandoned....and after having him for two weeks, I knew why he had been abandoned, the little shit (and I say that as lovingly as one could). He ate everything...couch cushions, trashcans, shoes, clothes.....Best dog ever, though!!! He's lonely. I say playmate, a dogwalker since you are gone all day, obedience training, or take him with you as much as you can to practices and stuff outside.
