Taking Me Back To Something Completely Brand New
There are several bands out there who lately have been taking me back to days of old. Thing is, these are newer bands, not older ones. It's not that any of these bands I'm going to mention lack originality. To the contrary, they are very unique. Part of there uniqueness is that they bring in rock elements from the past. Most rock bands these days have built off the grunge sound of the 90's, moving forward. These bands, however, have taken more of a step back than a step forward, giving us some fresh sounds that seem awefully familier. First off, If you like the Beatles or the Ramones, you should like this band as well:

Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is

Rip It Up
I digg 'em and so does my 14 y/o daughter. She thinks it's cool we like a lot of the same music. So do I. This next band is a little out there which is cool. Their strangeness is interpreted by me as uniqueness. They remind me a lot of Rush and Pink Floyd. Not that they sound like either mind you. I used to go to the planetarium on Saturday nights and partake in the laser light shows set to rock music. In my town they were called the Cosmic Concert. We would listen to Led Zeppelin, Rush, and The Who, but no band was more of a favorite or was more perfectly matched for that atmosphere as Pink Floyd. This band would also have thrived in that atmosphere.
Mars Volta
The Widow

Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of)

I'm really getting into this band a lot. If any of you are still partaking of the bubbler, this band would go great with your hobby. This next band apperared locally at a rather small venue last October. I missed them and that's too bad because they will never play a venue that size again. Since this time last year they have been on Letterman, Leno, O'brien and Kimmel. The played Comminication Breakdown for Led Zeppelin when the were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame, had one of their songs featured in an Apple Ipod commercial, and they have recently won a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance. They beat out System of a Down, Tool and 9 Inch Nails to get that honor. All of this on just one self titled album. Can't wait to see what they do for an encore. They list Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple as their biggest influences. Heh... yeah, that sounds about right.
Wolfmother
