With the blow up of the Walter Reed scandal. the plight of the U.S. veteran is being tossed around in the media and it looks like our leaders are going to take action. In light of this, let me remind you all of something. As our Congressmen and Senators are showing us how shocked and horrified they are, and as our dear leader sends in the Inquisition to get to the bottom of this, please remember that they are all full of shit. These same people, help fund and run and oversee Walter Reed and the VA system (Walter Reed being outsourced). They know how much funding they get, they know the deplorable conditions our vets have to put up with, and they know that while our servicemen and women are in Iraq putting they're lives on the line, they're spouses and babies are lining up for food stamps. They don't care. The Democrats don't care and the Republicans don't care. Shitting on the veterans started while I was a kid, if not before, and it incrementally has gotten worse and worse. These stories are not new and our leaders have always known this. Don't believe their false outrage because it's not sincere, just politically neccessary.

Ron Paul 2008?

Congressman Ron Paul has announced that he is seeking the presidency in 2008. I see only two problems with this. His is a Republican and a Texan, two things that are too easily identified with the renound GW Bush. However, I want people to take a good look at Mr Paul, and try to look past these to points because there is much more to this man that these.

Note: I have nothing against Texas so don't get a tumbleweed up your... er, burr under your saddles..

Mr. Paul is not your typical Republican. In fact, he is more of a Libertarian. So much so that the Libertarians would love for him to change parties and represent them. They figure that if he did that, at least they could gaurentee him a place on the ballot. I say, if he is to have any shot at all he needs to beat out Mccain and Guilliani and the rest to get the nod. It's a long shot but the Rebublican party needs to wake up and see that they really, truly stink right now. They're platform stinks. They're policies stink. They're leadership stinks. The whole thing just smells like Ann Coulter's unwashed, ripe ass. In other words, It's time to wash up and make some changes. Ron Paul is a voice in the Republican party that is NOT spouting the party line. Here are some fast facts:

  • He has never voted to raise taxes.
  • He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
  • He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
  • He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
  • He has never taken a government-paid junket.
  • He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
  • He voted against the Patriot Act.
  • He voted against regulating the Internet.
  • He voted against the Iraq war.

Not being a Rebublican, I'm afraid I'll never have an opportunity to vote for him. If you are a Republican or lean towards the conservative side, give Ron Paul a shot. If you're more of a Hillary fan you may hate him but at least hear what he has to say. He is not George Bush by a long shot.

Unfortunately, anyone who desires to have the power of office in the US can't be trusted with it. Goverment quickly makes good men bad, or dead. Of course the fact that I'm a cynic might have something to do with my biased opinions. ;)

Thanks for the info on Representative Paul. Although I tend to vote progressively, I'm a registered Republican. I live in a county where a Democrat hasn't been elected to ANY public office in 40 years...no shit. So if you want to take part in the electorial process, you register GOP so you can vote in the primary as that's where the decisions are made. I completely agree with you on all the false outrage. You can't tell me that every single relative of every single one of these vets hasn't been raising a holy hell for three years. Writing the VA, writing their congressment and senators, calling their local news. The fact that ANY of these schmucks have the balls to feign suprise/ignorance at the situation is beyond reproach.
