It just could be.
Now before some of you get excited and start giving me the thumbs down, I'm not stating that they are my personal choice. Nor am I saying that they aren't. I'm just saying, if you step back and look at it with personal feelings aside, this is more than very possible. If I was to make a prediction, again with my personal feelings out of it, I would say that the Democrats should beat the Republicans. Really, it's theirs to loose. Even looking at it historically you would have to agree that the Dems should win. In my opinion, Barrack Obama is poised to win the nomination for the party, again I think it's his to loose, and he would be a fool not to try, at least, to get Hillary as VP. Besides, politics aside he's a likable guy. I'm not a Democrat but even I like the guy. Now we have many, many months of mud slinging to go, so in the end an Obama-Clinton ticket may not be feasible due to the tensions of the campaign, but for today, with about 17 months left to go, this is my long pick to win.
So what about the Republicans? Do they have a chance. Well, yes but it's a much smaller one. Anyone who is going to have a chance against the Dems is going to have to distance themselves away from Bush. More that that, actually, they may even have to provide solid opposition to the President. That could be hard to do if they have been backing him and his policies up to now. My choice for the Republicans side.... I would have to say it should be John McCain in a close one over Rudy Giuliani. I could be wrong about Rudy, but I feel, just like with Obama, it's McCain's nomination to loose.
So, you may be asking yourself who I personally would like to see in the white house. To tell you the truth, I'm not decided. Both parties have been making me sick and no one person has made me stand up and cheer. Even though I don't yet know my candidates name, I can describe them to you.
- Would hold out an olive branch to people to normally hate us and try to form true friendships.
- Would do what they can to end this crazy war in Iraq and turn our focus back to Al Qaeda as it should be.
- Would promote a smaller government and greater liberty for US citizens. (in other words, stay out of our wallets, bedrooms, business and hair)
- Would have a multicultural, mutiracial staff and cabinet, etc.
- Would look to heal wounds within our own country and *truly* work across party lines.
- Be a true leader in every sense of the word
- Be of a solid character and moral fiber
I know I'm being overly simplistic and maybe even Polyannish. I'm just tired of the politics of hatred and division that we have become so used to. The primary focus and process of the Republicans and Democrats are driving them farther and farther to the extreme. It's no longer about working together but about being different than one another. As they move farther apart, of course, they abandon everyone in the center. As they strive to differ themselves they also, and very often, abandon good reason. I remember thinking when Bill Clinton was in office, "this administration blows." Now that Bush is in office I'm thinking "this administration blows too." So, right now I don't really give a fylin' hoot who wins. I just pray they can make things better.
