The beers I drank last week were fairly common. In fact, I bought two at my local Publix Supermarket, and one at my local Albertsons Supermarket. If you're not familier with those stores, they're both big national chains. First off, here's one everybody has most likely ran accross before:
Red Stripe Jamacian Lager
This beer was first brewed in 1938 by a couple of white dudes in Kingston, Jamaica. The islanders took too it easily because Jamaica, being a British colony, had been receiving expensive British beers. The Jamaicans loved this beer brewed local because it was much cheaper for them to purchase. It's a light alcohol drink with a distinct biterness but soft taste. Feel free to drink this one up on hot beach going days. It's a good pale lager, if you like pale lagers. It has 4.9% ABV and you should find it just about everywhere.
Leinenkugel Red
The Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company is in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin adn I like the label. That's about the only nice thing I can say about this beer.I know the pic is fairly big. I wan't you to get a good look. If you see this beer, stay far away. If you like red lagers, you're better off with Killians. I never really could figure out the smell. It's, a little malty, a little fruity maybe and very unpleasant. Actually, I thought it smelled rotten. It tasted like the smell. I was very disappointed in this beer to say the least. C'mon Wisconsin, damn! With all the breweries, please give us something, geeze. If you disagree, please feel free to post it in comments or pm me with it and I'll post it in the blog.
Yuengling Black and Tan
Unlike Frankenstiens Monster above, this beer is wonderful. It happens to be my new favorite. I wish Yuengling would sell more nationally because they are far superior than the other national companies. Yuengling makes a wide variety of beer including their Yuengling Premium beer which is a standard pilsner, and Yuengling Dark Brewed Porter. Combine the two and you get this wonderful brew. It pours dark like porter but has a lighter taste because of the mixture. I've only tried the Premium Lager and the Black & Tan so far, but Yuengling has really impressed me. If you see it, you have to give it a try. I was unable to find the ABV but it's probably around 4.8%.
