10 Reasons Why TV Is Better Than The Movies

I went to the movies on Saturday and saw Primeval starring Orlando Jones and Dominic Purcell (Prison Break). Movies.com didn't have any reviews ready except it gave the average customer reviews as a "B". My wife and I decided (at the ticket window) to watch it based on that flimsy grade and the commercial. All I have to say is WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING!!!!!!! I mean, movies for two in my area cost $17 (that's $8:50 each for the mathematically challenged individuals as myself :) ). That's way too much money to spend an a piece of garbage, and that my friends, is exactly what this film is. It occurred to me as I was sitting in my broken seat, still reeling from the ticket price, not to mention the addition 10 bucks I spent at the concession stand for a large coke and large popcorn, that TV is better than the movies. C'mon....$10 bucks for a coke and popcorn! $17 bucks for a piece of crap movie! I could have made my own popcorn and bought a soda at the store for about $3 (and I'm being generous). I could have rented a movie, watched on my flat screen TV with my Onkyo surround sound system, in my underwear, in comfort, and enjoyed it way better than this. That would have cost me a whopping $8 bucks... maybe. Then it occurred to me that a lot of TV is just plain better that the movies anymore. It's true. That's why so many Movie stars are coming back to the "little" screen. For example: Kiefer Sutherland-24, James Woods-Shark, Edward James Almos-BG, Kyra Sedgwick-The Closer, just to name a few. Also, technology is making special effects more cost efficient, so expensive space battles, for example, can look close to motion picture quality. Don't get me wrong, there will always be times when I'll just have to see it at the theater. There's no way I would have missed all the Star Wars and LotR in the theater. but for the most part, the best theater is at home. TV shows are getting fantastic. There are so many good shows that it's hard to narrow it down. The following are shows that I just DO NOT miss, no matter what. Thank God for Tivo/DvR's. Here are my top 10:

10. Jerico (CBS)- Very good cast and so far some pretty good writing. Nothing like the end of the world to hold you in suspense.

9. The Unit (CBS) - At first I wasn't so sure about the balance with the wives stories vs. the action. I have to admit, It can be some of the best parts of the show.

8. Heroes (NBC)- Okay, so far they've got me. Just don't screw it up by being stupid.

7. Prison Break (Fox) - This is one of them shows that just make you crazy from week to week, like Lost.

6. The Closer (USA)- Kyra Sedgwick is stunningly superb in this show and the cast is top notch. I can't say enough good things about it. Rent the first season and catch up!

5. Medium (CBS)- Creative television at it's finest. The writers on this show know how to stay fresh and the actors, the adults as well as the kids, bring their charactors to life.

4. The Shield (FX) - HOT DAMN! I love this show. Michael Chiklis is a son-of-a-bitch and you love him for it. All I can say is go back abd get all the seasons you missed and watch them in order. You won't regret it.

3. Lost - (ABC) This show pisses me off so much but I'm hooked like a crackhead, so what can I do but wait to get high. theyre promissing a long run of shows with no repeats coming up soon. We'll see...

2. Battlestar Galactica (SciFi)- This is the best show on TV, when 24 isn't on. Maybe it's better than 24, just maybe. Edward James Almos is such an admirable performer, the writing is so good, the cast is so good, the special efects are so good... get the picture?

1. 24 (Fox)- Well what can I say. Jack is a bad ass s.o.b. It's common knowledge that Superman wears Jack Bauer underoos. Keifer is the American James Bond, hands down. I'm sure the Duke would be proud.

Honorable Mentions (no particular order):

The Wire (HBO) - A very edgey cop show like The Shield

The Sopranos (HBO) The reruns are going to be on A&E so watch it... or I'll break your f***ing legs. Capiche?

The 4400 (USA) I would like to have put this one in my top ten but I ran out of numbers. Solid Scifi!

CSI/CSI New York (CBS)(Sorry, Miami is just friggin rediculous) Great investigative dramas.

The Biggest Loser(CBS) The changes in these people are jaw droping.

Numbers (CBS) I love this show. Makes me want to take a math class or somethin'.

Kidnapped (NBC) My wife is in to it more than I am but it's still real good.

Supernatural (CW) I also wanted to put this in my top 10. I realy dig thsi show. Creepy fun!

Stargate/SG Atlantis (SciFi) - If you love scifi, you can't miss these shows.

There are many more, and more on the horizon. I'm still gonna go to the movies but TV is giving us more and more reasons to just stay home.
