Anyway onto topic. Killing children in movies.
I remember back in the day this was a BIG deal and huge taboo. Kids always survived....they might have gone through hell...but the kid always made it.
And any movie that did differently was WAY dark.
Remember the little girl Newt in Aliens? She made it. Barely...but she made it. We as the audience grew to like her and felt sorry for her because she was the last survivor of her colony before they were all killed by the aliens.
Fast forward to today. I just got finished watching the trailer for the new Aliens vs. Predator movie. And close to the beginning we see a father and his son out in the woods hunting. There's a rustle in the bushes and we see the father get hit by a facehugger. Any Alien fan knows this is instant death. Well to my surprise the son was also hit with a face hugger. So we KNOW that kid is gonna die a horrible and gruesome death in the film.
My question.....why? When did killing a kid like that in a movie become easier to do? I'm not trying to make a big deal about it. I just don't see the reasoning behind it. Adults are canon fodder in horror flicks as far as I'm concerned...but kids ALWAYS made it.
Seeing people's heads explode and getting pinned to walls......none of that I gave a second thought.
What do you think about it? Just curious.
Here's the "R-rated" trailer.
