My punches are like a summer zephyr or an afternoon sun beam

It’s great to be ignored.  It’s a good dose of humility.  It’s also an understanding of where you sit in a discussion or in the balance of a hierarchy of power. You put time to put down your thoughts and you lay them out only to be left on the side of the road. It could be that you stick your neck out in a meeting or by doing a project and then you get the smile.  The smile of “nice try but we really are not looking for that right now”. I guess I don’t know where I fit in some times.

I also have been watching the discussion about the 2old2play website and the clan vs. non-clan debate. Who cares? I did at first but then I realized it’s just another blah blah blah.  All talk and non-action, which is how I feel most businesses are run both successful and not successful. My feeling is that you need a well-defined product and you need to market that product better than your competitors.  You need a plan with goals/targets; you need to track revenues and expenses.  There is a reason it’s called the field of dreams and not the municipal garbage dump.

I say define what you want to accomplish, otherwise you might as well stare at a stump. A business is not like some young girl frolicking through a wild flower meadow it’s got to have a machine gun running through the commie infested swamps of Nam.  You got to have teeth, not grandma’s dentures. You can’t eat steak without teeth. You can’t be successful unless you accomplish what you set out to do.

I’ve been through two strategic planning sessions, one for a non-profit and one for a for profit company.  The easy part is coming up with ideas on how to solve the issues, the hard part is implementation. In the end one thing always plagues me about organizations, I just don’t think people really define what they want to accomplish.  I know I repeat myself, but even a broken record can still be used as a weapon.  Yeah I know it makes no sense, but that’s how I feel.

It looks like a big juicy burger but when you bite into it it’s filled with sand. Ahhhh!

If a goal isn't definable, or measurable, did you hit it?
