Shared on Sun, 04/09/2006 - 08:39Havent done one of these before, but this seemed like the right place
to put my writeups, since I think outside folks can get to our
blogs. Maybe not, Ill find out soon.
So, I was visiting http://halo.bungie.org and saw that the Tied The Leader clan was holding a set of warthog races. I knew of TTL from many of the blog posts that their leader XerxdeeJ has used to discuss the state of Halo2 gaming and fair play. I dont think they have the age reqt that we have, but these guys seem to be OMM material, as far as placing good sportsmanship and fair play above winning at all costs.
I went to their site and was amazed by the amount of work that they had put into the competition. They were calling it "Le Tour de Halo" and had an entire Tour de France theme going with "sprint" and "climb" stages, different jerseys, and 5 races across 5 different Halo2 multiplayer maps. The setup is 5 races across 5 consecutive Saturdays April 8 through May 6. The points system is fairly complex, but the basic format is that the points you gain from the first 4 races seed you for the fifth championship race. The courses are (in order) Headlong, Containment, Zanzibar, Waterworks, and Coagulation.
Looking at all the work that CobaltNova and the others at TTL put into the races I thought Id see if we could steal their ideas and use them here at OMM. When I wrote them they not only agreed to let me use their maps and race descriptions, but invited me to participate. Im a pretty horrible hog driver, and knew I would miss the Zanzibar race, but I decided to give it a try.
So, today is race day.
Ive practiced the Headlong course, and feel like I can get around it with minimal mistakes, but Im concerned about the addition of 3 other warthogs taking the same jumps as me and trying to cut the same corners as Ill be doing. There are several places on this course that are only wide enough for one or two hogs, so its going to be much different from my solitary practice. I noticed that a few of the TTL folks had been practicing together, so I think Im probably going to get my butt kicked. Still, its all in the name of fun and Halo2 camaraderie.
Wish me luck!
