Best Birthday!

Today is my birthday!!! So far it has been stellar. I woke up to a very nice good morning kiss and ... then we had breakfast later. Eggs cooked just like I like them, English cream tea (prepared properly), beans on toast, potatoes, sausage... ahhhh. :) Great start. Then some XBOX with Matt (Super Meat Boy, Braid and Portal), then a stunning birthday cake from Bruster's (they make the BEST ice cream cakes)- it was a strawberry shortcake ice cream cake with chocolate ganache, buttercream rosettes, and oreos. I know, it sounds like a culinary disaster but it was actually delicious!

I don't have school today (yay) but I'm spending the afternoon at my best friend's house playing piano for her stundents' lessons. Making money on my bday is not so bad, especially when it's doing something I enjoy. Then Matt is coming over after he gets off work and is taking me to my favorite restaurant on this side of the Atlantic (Giovanni's--- excellent Mediterranean and Italian food) then we have no official plans, so maybe a movie. Realistically, probably more XBOX. We're on it all the time! I kept getting him achievements in games he's had for ages (I play his XBOX when he's at work). He came home the other day and remarked that his score looked a lot higher that he remembered it. Not sure if that was a subtle hint to cut it out or a thank you, so I asked. Turns out it was a thank you, so long as it wasn't a new game he was working on. (Then I said oops and made a mental note to stop playing Red Dead on his machine.)

We got the Colorado situation worked out- after a brief but intense email to my mom, I explained why we wanted to share the basement, but offered to stay on the thrid floor, giving Matt the basement, if it would make everyone more comfortable. I just said that it was her house, her rules. She responded that we could stay in whatever arrangement we liked best, and that she hadn't seen things from my perspective previously, so it's just fine. (I am SO glad I pulled the "ex-husband was a total shit" card. I gave away one personal detail that I really hadn't wanted to tell her, but I knew it would work, and it did. I can also manipulate, hehehe.)

It'll be fine. If they start looking uncomfortable then we will make sure to spend as little alone time in the basement as possible (so they can see us). lol

I am making a sweet potato casserole for Thanksgiving tomorrow, and have been put in charge of the wine selections for the family. How many bottles is appropriate for 12 people? 6? 4? I'm going to go with 3, and err on the side of non-alcoholism. A red, a white and a rose. Sound ok? I'm meeting his family for the first time tomorrow so 1) I have to look amazing (shoulda stopped eating 4 years ago), 2) gotta make an extraordinary seweet potatoe casserole and 3) have to be able to entertain his female family members while the Cowboys game is on. I'm feeling some pressure. As long as I remain articulate and have no more than 4 glasses of wine, it should be fine.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

a bottle of wine holds 4 glasses. if everyone has a glass, then you have enough for everyone to have 1 glass....the problem is if everyone wants the same type of wine. since it is thanksgiving, and the main course is turkey, i'd have selected 1 bottle red, 1 bottle rose', and 3 bottles white. the general rule with pairing wine is white meat, white wine, red meat, red wine, with pork as a sort of middle ground. but i always say drink what you like. for the future...a good wine for chicken is chardonnay, a good wine for seafood is a pinot gris(gregio). red meat goes with a meritage or cabernet savingon and rose' is for people who don't really like to drink wine. happy birthday and happy thanksgiving
