It looks as though the 360 decided to take a shit today.....E 68, hard drive failure. So I guess we are now members of "The Club," coffin on it's way as we sit here ever so patiently waiting with nothing to do except each other . Sucks that we just spent $115 bucks on GH3 4 days ago...aarrrggghhhhh!!!!

OK, some questions for everyone...what are some ways to maybe salvage the data on the hard drive? Our local Game Stop doesn't offer any kind of data retrieval or anything of that nature. When we return the box, will they send us a new 360 with a new hard drive or what? Help!!

Edit:
Well, he slammed the hard drive into the box...and it turned on fine. He says he is not turning it off ever now, lol. What would the best option be right now, could we get a memory card and transfer the data from the hard drive to the memory card and maybe salvage some of it?

I was told by "Kenny" the Customer Service guy I spoke to not to send anything but the box in, he said they would send a new one with a hard drive and everything...but I was wanting to make sure that was accurate..

Edit 2:
Since it is on....for the moment....We bought a memory card and transfered the gamer tags and Halo3, GH3 and a few others game data to it....so no matter what we will have those...At least it's one good thing today, lol.  While it's on I guess we are going to play H3 until we can't anymore :)

I would say just pop off the hard drive and keep that when you send the 360 in. MJ

When you send a 360 in. you're inly supposed to put in the console. No controllers, HDD, faceplate, memory unit etc.. As a side note, the arcade version is incredibly cheap.. =P

Ditto on what Rask said.. I'm on my fifth box & still have the original HDD. Lucky for me, this latest one has lasted about 9 months.. knock. on. wood.

They want the 360 returned on a HD failure?! Without the HD? Amazing MS ever gets anything done. BTW, if I got a HD failure then made the HD & 360 work again I would run out and buy one of those 120GB drives with the migration cable, etc. Then keep the casket around in case of another failure.

I'm on my 4th Durty. It is sad, but it happens.

I guess that they'll get the 360 problems worked out by the time the 720 hits store shelves.

What they said. Nothing but the box. When it comes back it won't have a hard drive and it won't be the same unit. Make sure you get any game out of it that you might have forgotten! It took mine 5 weeks but I've heard they are MUCH faster now.
