We Are Working On Speed Issues

A lot of people have been complaining about how slow the site is lately and the reason we didn't look into it sooner is because the site has been blazing fast for most of us. See, the staff almost only uses Fire Fox to browse and for us a page load will take around 1-2 seconds. The issue seems to only be affecting Internet Explorer users.

What is happening is IE sends out a request for a page, but instead of re-using all the old stuff its already seen (like the header, footer, forum, avatar, and other images) it reloads them all again. This takes a shit load of time and also a crap ton of bandwidth. For instance last month we went through 66gigs of bandwidth. Because of IE we went to over 90gigs. That's an insane waste of money, bandwidth, and time. We are trying to see when and where this happened, but it may take some time.

So for the sake of you patients, our budget, and your time, I would switch to Fire Fox for now. To be honest, fire fox is a much faster, safer, and cleaner browser anyway. Why do you think the staff loves it so much?

I hate to say it doodi, but I'm on FireFox and am also seeing the speed issues. Particularly in the clan forums.

should make the site not viewable in firefox. lol. Just have a big firefox logo on the page that says, "not until you obtain the fox of fire will you be allowed access to the garden of gaming."

Not all of the staff prefers Firefox over IE. I think most web pages look better in IE. And some sites don't work with Firefox at all. Firefox is very good for porn, tho. So either add more porn to the site or fix the caching problem.

I use Firefox, and it's been a little slow today too, mostly in the forums. I like FF because it doesn't tell me I can't install things on my computer at work. I'm not an administrator, but FF doesn't care!

What version of FF and what are you Cache settings. Also, when its slow do you notice that it has to load images again. Or does the whole page just "appear". FF could still suffer from some of the cache issues.

I use FF 1.5.0.7 on multiple platforms and can still see 10+ second load times in the forums.

@Zikan Is it reloading the images when you check the forums? I need to see if its caching or not.

I'm using 1.07 on this machine and whatever the latest version is on my home machine. Cache is set to default (50,000).

I've noticed a significant slow down this week on the new server as well. It was blazing fast when it first went live but it's slowed down this week. I only use firefox and i haven't changed anything on it in the past week. I notice a ton of requesting going on in the bottom left corner.

When i say significant slow down i mean relative to how it was last week. It's still faster relative to the old server.

So its still downloading all the images. That is what is so odd. My FF (which is the latest version) does not request the cached data and so I load pages at 1 sec. Seems like even some people are still re-loading all the old images again. So odd. So you can see the images loading on screen correct?

Ya i can see the entire page fill in piece by piece. I don't however use cache, i have it set to 0mb because i don't want web history left behind. So that could be some of the issue, but like i said, it was blazing fast last week, this week slow. No changes on my end with cache settings or anything else.

I use FF while at work and Safari at home (I know, I know) but have noticed it more with Safari. I'll check my settings when I get home.

I set FF to 5meg cach and the font page built in 5 seconds. I set it back to 0 and cleared and it took 11 seconds.

Im wondering what is really causing it then. Seems like the request for image reloads is what is taking so long. Although having your cache set to 0 would defiantly take a lot longer.

Still doesnt explain why it only takes me 1 sec to load any page on 2o2p. Including all forum pages.

I use FF at work, and yesterday it was very slow despite it moving like lightning last week.

I'm at home now on FF and it's FAST like lightening. At work my DL speed is about 1.1meg at home it's 2.3meg. My FF here is also set to 1meg cache. Very little loading going on.

Well i switched to firefox and must say the difference is immense. I still use IE if I need it but must admit the graphics are just as good with FF as it is with the beta IE 7. Occasionally i see loading graphics but even thats faster than with IE :)
