Clan Pages Anyone?

We have talked about this for a while, and I think our next big project for the site would have to be Clan Pages. We want a way for clans to express themselves more, while still keeping them apart of the community.

The biggest issues we see is that clans use our site to recruit, but then often want to build something more and leave the site that brought them together. That kinda hurts the large community and new people that show up have less of a chance at meeting new people.

So, what about clan pages? I was kinda thinking of a mini site within our site. Its almost like the blogs, but for a larger base of people. Originally it was to be apart of the SCC and have a special subscribers section, but I really don't know when that will be released. I would love to have pages that people could use to help recruit their clans and get a special space. I even want to give them their own urls like www.yourclanname.2o2p.com

The question is, what would you want from a clan page? What kinda features would you like to see? We basically want a way to keep 2old2play Clans within 2o2p. The main reason is so that 2old2play Clans can remain 2old2play sanctioned clans and still have their own place on the website.

While this idea has some very worthy merit, I am concerned about how truly independant our Clan would be in these web pages. What kind of privacy would we really have?

Thats a great Idea, I was thinking of starting a clan blog or something just to highlight the clan a bit more. Why not make it like the site, start small and then slowly add features!

I guess my first question would be, how would the clan go about adding/updating items on their page? Would we be able to do it ourselves, or have to forwar items to you to add them?

You'd probably want to have a clan site that would have: a. Schedule postings for when the people meet. b. A place to store their clan logo. c. A clan roster which may include clan mates with their timezones so people know when to expect them "online" and when to schedule events. d. A clan news section, what happened in last nights tournament/event? e. A clan mission statement: why would _I_ want to be part of this specific clan? Is a "clan" defined by a single game? Or the individuals? You may want to have a list of supported games that the clan has events in. Perhaps you may also want something that flags it as a "clan" or a "guild" since some of us are RPG fanboys.

I agree with codemonkey - and add the play time for games per member... so people know who plays what and when instead of people saying they play this or that... the numbers won't lie. WHat is a "clan" now that halo 2 is on the back-burner for a lot of people?

I love this idea but I am unsure what to put on the pages, like code said mission statement would be good, what requirments if any exist to be part of the clan, hell maybe even a born on date as to when the clan was created.

I love all the ideas! Without a doubt this would have to be the largest feature 2old2play has ever done, so the more ideas the better. LB75Player, I wouldn't have the time to do any of the work for the clan sites, so I would make it something the clans could change. Edit background colors, images, logos etc. A news section would definitely be there, not unlike a blog. I would definitely add a calender for scheduling, a clan roster, and clan times. Since Halo is taking a back seat as you say, a clan is simply and group sanctioned by 2old2play as an official clan. You could play any type of games you want. As long as you are following the clan rules set by 2o2p then you can do what you want.

I think a clan page that offers something similar to a yahoo group but tailored for gamers/clans would be great. Clans need to schedule matches, recruit and communicate.

Great idea, I remember asking you about something similar a long time ago. Adding to what codemonkey said. If like its a PC game like BF2 for example you can have a donation option so they can support not only their site 'hosting' but also to pay for a server and a teamspeak/ventrillo service.

I volunteer the Aged Assassins to be your lab rat. Even a glorified blog with some cool blocks like the ones mentioned above (clan list, calendar, etc.) would be awesome!

Outstanding idea!!!!!! I support it and look forward to it becoming a new and wonderful additional site function. Will Clan sites be accessible to all site members?? I hope so i think this would go a long way to educating members as to what the different Clans are about. It would also allow different Clans to interact, which is limited now due to the private Clan forums. Very cool just continues to reinforce for me what an awesome site this is and how its so special to be a part of it as it grows, Thanks Doodie you da man!!! - BAT

I would drop the "www" - just make them subdomains, like: http://omm.2old2play.com. I know, it's not that big of a deal - just my thought. As for the main idea, I'm definitely for it!

I would suggest a gallery section for each clan. right now, there are pix threads that get lost because they are not "stickied". something eimilar to the way MySpace does it. where each member can upload maybe like 2 or 3 pix of their choice. :)

I think this would be a very nice addition to an already great place. The addition of clan or guild pages would free up so much forum space for each respective group of gamers. I know GSN forum space has been awash with news and info postings as of late. Being able to post game stats/records/season and league info on a main page would be very usefull.

The Wheezin Gezzers have felt the pain of not having a location where we can better organize for the better part of the year. Our intra-clan tournaments, clan matches, squad matches and ect are difficult to plan and execute because people have to dig through forum posts and calculate timezones with daylight savings time (DAMN YOU ARIZONA). So to better our membership's experience, we've already begun an effort to develop our own website to enhance our community. You can preview a screenshot of it here: http://www.wheezingeezers.org/ Our goals are: 1. To use Google Calendar integration to maintain our event data. 2. Provide an area for write-ups about matches, going-on of our members similar to the DMH 22-Question Interviews. 3. Create software to better manage our events, be it Halo 2 matches, UNO, or Chromehounds. 4. Membership Information and "How to become a member" 5. Every article will have links to the WG Forum Posts if available on 2o2p. 6. There will be many references to 2o2p as this clan is apart of this organization. So I'm looking forward to developing mashups of the free services from Google and such wherever it may benifit our members as well as listening to their ideas and building upon it. If you and DSmooth want to get together and chat at the LAN about this and what direction you can that the 'clan page', I'd love to talk to you about it. I see it as a great solution to those clans that want a simple and effective 'home' on the site. It something that has been missing and will be welcomed by most if not all clans.
