My First LAN Party

This weekend I finally experienced a LAN for the first time. Saturday afternoon my girl received a call from one of our friends asking if we would be interested in coming over for a LAN party. He is moving out of his apartment next weekend so there was no furniture in the house, just a bunch of Xboxes and TV’s (5 to be exact). So I grabbed my trusty old Duke-style controller, my copy of Halo 2 and headed over for some all out frag fun.

The evening started with some warm sake and pizza before we moved to the first game of the evening, Far Cry: Instincts. I have had no experience with this game but I found out I probably should take a look at picking this bad boy up! The game moved well, had pretty good graphics (grenade explosions were top-notch) and the game play was excellent. The best part about it was the map editor as all of the maps we played were created by some of the people that attended the LAN. Needless to say my lack of experience cost me in this game as I could do no better than third or fourth out of 5.

Once we completed the custom maps we moved on to something I am a little more familiar with, Halo 2. After a few more shots of sake we began the Halo portion of the evening. Now this is where I felt most comfortable. After playing with all of you 2old2players for so long these guys were in for a long night. Unfortunately, all we played were FFA slayer games with battle rifle start on various maps (hard to remember what maps were played). I was basically able to completely dominate all of the games up until about 1:45am, right before it was time to call it a night (my girl was falling asleep in the corner). The last game of the night was a FFA slayer game on Foundation. A close battle ensued as my fellow gamers were frustrated by their inability to gain a foothold in the game up to this point. As the game grew closer to the end, I was doing well but trailing one player (24 kills) and tied with another (23 kills). Desperate to finish the night undefeated on Halo I began searching for the guy in first (screen name: ritalin) and found him down on the floor about to dispatch his opponent to take the win. Well, I couldn’t just let it happen so I zoomed in and stole his kill with a quick headshot and then proceeded to take him out as well to take the victory by 1 kill and finish the night unbeaten in Halo 2.

All of the gamers there were around my age so I have extended an invite for them to join 2old2play so they could also take advantage of the great folks here and hone their skills so that the next time we have a LAN party, they could actually give me a bit more competition .

So in closing I would like to thank 2old2play, the Wheezin Geezers and all of our Halo 2 players that kicked my ass; so that one day I could bring that knowledge to bear when playing against people not lucky enough to get dominated by the likes of some of our most elite of gamers, you guys (and girls) rule!!!
