Shared on Sun, 04/01/2007 - 16:29It's days like those we have experienced this past week that make this time of year my favorite. Driving along the interstate you experience the way Mother Nature wakes up the land. The multitude of shades of green that flow among the trees in their various stages of leafing (word?) to the dots of yellow forsythia bushes and pinkish purples of the redbud trees that are interspersed among the cottonwoods.
The prairie is multishaded with a green carpet low to the ground with the remnants of last years brown to gold stems rising above the new grass. Of course there are some who have already torched the ground to allow the new grass to emerge more quickly without the competition of the weeds from last year. Those areas are already a lush green from the brome grass growing by leaps and bounds.
The neighborhood yards have already been mowed twice this week because of the warm temperatures and the rain we have received. My lilacs, just below the bedroom window are ready to burst open and send their fragrance in our open windows. I love the look of the earth during this rebirth of the land.
Spring has sprung!
But, like everyone else who lives in tornado alley, this is also the time of year for storms. I don't fear them, I have lived through more tornadoes in one night than most people experience in ten years, if not longer. I have a healthy respect for the deadly twisters, yet the sirens always give me a jolt of adrenaline every time I hear them, with the exception of testing days. I used to watch for tornadoes when the sirens blew. They are always a sight to behold. It is amazing the power that surrounds these things.
What does this have to do with spring? Everything. Unfortunately, you can't have rebirth without the possibility of destruction. Yet, out of that destruction always come rebirth.
Ok, enough, I have tests this week and I need to get back to studying. Besides, Scary Fox and Bud have come back from their first adventure. They dropped their laundry off with Scary Lad and it seems there is a piece missing.
Keep on Go!!!
