Shared on Thu, 07/05/2007 - 10:51The celebration is over and my Big Sweetie (the dog, not the hubby
) is getting back to normal. She is one of the many dogs who become fearful during the 4th of July celebrations and thunderstorms. We used to have her on Acepromazine as a tranquilizer, but it only made her dopey and unstable coordination. She remained very mentally alert. A friend of mine, who is also a veterinarian, asked why she wasn't on vallium, Hmm. She explained that the valium wouldn't make her dopey but help calm her. So, I got on the phone with my vet and ask for a prescription. We tried it and shebang! What a difference. She was alert, more like vigilant, to the noise, but gone was the pacing, the panting, the hypersalivation (yes, puddles on the floor). If any of you have a dog that goes wacko (another medical term) during loud noises, thunderstorms, etc. then ask your vet. It definitely helped my dog.
Last night a neighboring town was having a huge celebration and it was all free to the public. Tribute bands played in the evenings, tiger exhibits, elephant rides, camel rides, a petting zoo, carnival rides ALL FREE. Last nights finale was the band REO Speedwagon. Not a tribute band but the original members. Too cool. Yes, they have aged and some of the hair is not so big or in scant quantities, but definitely white.
The music was good. All of the old tunes that I remember singing along with and some new ones. They have definitely kept their sound and their voices still sound good. We had a blast. I brought along a friend of mine and we acted like school girls, people watching and laughing at the odd looking skinny man in overalls, with one strap undone and a side button undone to make it look as if he didn't have any undies on underneath. He was skin and bones, not really an old man but one who has been dabbling in illegal substances for a long time. I could actually point out bone structures on his shoulder blade that aren't normally visible. I know, it isn't nice, but then he sits down at a table with two other guys who look almost like him. That was too funny, (Meet my brother Darryl and my other brother Darryl) Yes, I'm a bbbaadd person. We had fun.
I hope everyone else had a good evening. I'm off for the rest of the week and plan on doing some work around the house, finish painting some shelves, etc. and tonight we are going to the TRANSFORMERs movie. I can't wait!
Keep on Go!
