My Hero

As most may know, my Elite finally red lighted and froze up playing Bioshock last week.  I called MS and ordered my coffin disappointed that we would be down one console this weekend with all the teenagers in the house.  Well, Dastard called me yesterday and asked about the Product REplacement Plan I had purchased with the Elite from Best Buy.  I had read the brochure and was under the impression that the PRP was in effect after the manufacturer's warranty had expired.  He encouraged me to call and check.  So, like a dutiful wife (hehe) I did.  Lo and behold, I was able to swap out the damaged console and power cord and got a brand new replacement last night.  The weekend is saved.  The boys had better bow down and pledge their fealty to Dastard for the presence of mind to question and to me for actually getting the box replaced!!

Dastard is not a big believer of buying the extended warranty and was skeptical when I went ahead and bought this one, but I'm damn glad I did and this was soooo worth the $60.  Not having to wait for the coffin or for the repaired or replaced console to return is definitely worth the extra dollars, especially if I have to use it in the next 18 months.  And the way these consoles are dying, I have no doubt we will be using it again!

Now, I just need to find time to play the COD4 Beta myself.  I can see I'm going to have to wrestle one of the controllers from one of their hands.  On the other hand, I have already warned my clan that I'm sure the boys will want to get in on some of this Goodness called Call of Duty 4 so if my gamertag is online, it may not be me playing.  But, I have already promised that they will not behave like gutter rats or neonazi A**holes.  They will identify themselves so others can watch their language if they choose, but will not act like Timmies!

Would you rather
See an avalanche coming straight at you
OR
A tsunami (tidal wave)?

Keep on Go!

Check to see if the warranty is still good. The one at GameStop allows only one replacement. If you want to have the warranty on the new machine, you have to purchase the agreement again.

How much time to they give you at Best Buy where you can swap it for a new one? I still insist that the failure rate of these 360 are close to 50% in a two year time line. I'm gonna get the core hdmi version of the 360 when it comes out in September. Just for back up. Imagine that, having to buy two consoles because it's certain one will fail. What has the gaming world come to? We are totally being screwed.

@doorgunnerjgs: I did check and the warranty is still in effect. @ekattan: I bought the two year extended warranty so I'm not sure if that answers your question.

Sounds like you are making that extended warranty worth it. Glad to read you will be able to continue gaming without the hassle of exchange.
