Internet anonymity

Why is that people feel they can spew their hate via electronic means because they remain anonymous?  I know, I just answered my own question.  I read some politically based blogs and the negative responses they get is astounding.  Dixie Chicks during their Bush -bashing period.  I don't like what they said, I thought it was disrespectful, but I NEVER thought about sending them hate mail or threatening their lives.  What's the point?  They have their opinion and they are allowed.  Hmm, freedom of speech.  I know, those who write the nasties can probably say the same, yet they don't take the credit or responsibility for the writings.  Is this what Freedom of Speech means?

I think if you want to voice your opinion, you need to take responsibility for that action.  Otherwise, STFU!  Again, it goes back to my biggest pet peeve, it appears the population doesn't want to take personal responsibility for their actions.  It is in the news again today in another story.  Man goes to McDonalds and orders a Quarter Pounder without cheese because he is allergic to the cheese.  McDonalds goofs and gives him a burger with cheese.  OK, their bad.  But, this guy doesn't even check to see if they got his order right and sits in a darkened room after driving 30 minutes and eats.  He has a reaction, goes to hospital and now is suing for 10 million.  If you double check the order before you leave the premises, McDonalds will take responsibility and correct their goof.  But, you know, you leave the premises without checking, your bad.  Besides, 10 million?

Again, once you leave the premises, how can McDonalds be sure it was their mistake and not something this guy didn't get sick from eating something else?  10 million?  Nope, not worth 10 million.  This leads to my next rant about how too many people want the easy way out and for someone else to pay for it.  I'll save that for another rant.

Keep on Go!

I hear ya! I really do. In the world we live we really don't take personal responsability for anything. We expect our government to make everything OK. But we don't want to do anything ourselves. sigh.

Too true! (sigh). I get very discouraged at times about the ability of humans to fully take responsibility for their own actions. It just seems to get worse and 'Deus ex machina' shall lift the most greedy out of their doldrums.

Personal responsibility has gone out the window.

I'm taking the devil's advocate position here, but the guy *may* be owed something for medical, time & legal expenses. If the guy ordered food without cheese, if he received an order with cheese, if McD's 'cheese' actually contains ingredients that the guy is allergic to, and if the guy received a large enough dose to cause a life threatening issue, then maybe McD's should pickup his medical, time and legal fees. Otherwise, no. Could he have checked his order before leaving - yes. Should he have checked his order before leaving - probably (experience & anecdotes should have told him to). Could & should he have detected the 'cheese' on the first bite - yes. Could & should he have spit out the first bite on detecting the 'cheese' - yes. Could he have gotten a life threatening dose from the first bite (or taste thereof) - dunno, go ask a doctor. Lawyers will have fun with this one. But all-in-all, not worth $10 million. Maybe not even worth $10K.

NotStyro: I can't argue your point, he may be owed. But, you are right, 10Mil.....too much! Medical expenses, yes.
