Fun Weather in the Midwest

I was just about to post something about this current weather system that is in the heartland right now.  While we haven't gotten the ice that Mike has we are in a tornado watch until 6 PM tonight and then the Snow and Blowing Snow advisory begins at that time.  How often do you get to see Mother Nature during PMS? (No offense to those who do get PMS cause I know it is no laughing matter)

Reading Mike's post brought up a memory of a late April ice storm in Nebraska in the early 1990's.  I was working in a feedlot as the "doctor" and lived by a very nice recreational lake in a trailer park.  The trailer park was not one of the nicer ones, but it was all I could afford at the time.  When the power went out, I was not prepared.  I did go to work when the roads were passable since the animals still needed tending and I could work with a manual chute for treating.  I just had to write down what I used, how much and the animal's ID.  At home, I did have a gas oven and would run the oven for 15 minutes with the door open every hour until I went to bed.  Then came the fun part.  I had on long underwear sweat pants, a clean pair of coveralls, layers of t-shirts, sweatshirts and my down stadium coat with a hat and gloves.  Oh, did I mention how many socks?

The dog and cat both slept on my single bed with me and the cat was under the covers.  We survived and now I make sure I have a couple of gallons of water available at all times.

With the weather we are expecting tonight, rain before snow, we may need it.

There is nothing like being cold to appreciate being warm.
