Shared on Thu, 03/01/2007 - 12:28I was going to write a continuation of Baine's blog, but decided that it has all been said before and although it seems to be continually needed, I went the other way.
I have described myself as a Pollyanna to some people and I feel I need to elaborate on the definition.
"Pollyanna tells the story of a young girl named Pollyanna Whittier who goes to live with her wealthy Aunt Polly after her father's death. Pollyanna's philosophy of life centers around what she calls "The Glad Game": she always tries to find something to be glad about in every situation, and to always do without delay whatever she thinks is right."
I'm sure a lot of people roll their eyes at such a person. But, I am not the cheery, sappy image that comes to mind. I know not everything can easily be seen with a silver lining. I have had my own tales of woe. I have lived in tack rooms in barns, been poor enough to go without a meal or two or deep enough in debt that I contemplated bankruptcy, and been so depressed I couldn't see the advantages that were in front of me.
It started as a game to try and find the silver lining in the things going on in my life. A bad joke if you will. But, the more I "played" the more I seemed to come out of my down. I began to look for ways to improve what I could do, take what I liked about myself and build. You never know when an opportunity may present itself and if you are continually looking down, you may miss it. It takes time and we as a people are very impatient.
In other words, we are the Captains of our Destiny! The more you get bogged down the harder it is to get out of the mud. Keep moving and shake off the crap and forge on. One thing I learned while working on the track was from a man who had Down's Syndrome. His favorite saying was "Keep on Go!" and had a hand movement to go with it. Imagine one hand in front of you, palm down, and making a small motion simulating an ocean wave.
"Keep on Go!" Little town of 2 Old 2 Play!!!
