My Game of the Year Last Year

I was thinking about my game of the year for last year and I would have to say that it has to be without a doubt in my mind Mass Effect 2 so here is a little review of mine for you.

Mass Effect 2 is, quite simply, an amazing game with nearly endless possibilities that leaves you completely satisfied and hungry for more at the same time. A sequel to a really great game with a spectacular story but had duff combat (that tank) and loads of technical glitches, this not only fixes the glitches and the technical issues, it makes you forget about them.

The story is the second part of an epic space saga created by the masters of RPGs, Bioware. You play as Commander Shepard, a male or female character who is a human badass so cool, that he/she can beat Chuck Norris in a thumb war while eating a sandwich. Basically, at the start of the game, your ship, the SSV Normandy is attacked and destroyed by a mysterious alien race called the Collectors working for the Reapers, who I'm not going to reveal too much about because of spoilers for Mass Effect 1. The Collectors have been abducting human colonies for the Reapers and see you and your crew as a threat. You are killed in action but brought back to life two years later by a pro-human terrorist group called Cerberus. Cerberus are the only ones willing to take the fight to the Collectors and the Reapers. So off you go across the Milky Way with a new ship and a new crew (don't worry fans of ME1, Joker is still there) as you search far and wide for answers and a crew of elite fighters to destroy the Collectors.

The gameplay is also a thing of marvel, with brilliant shootouts with varied enemies all with unique tactics that keep you in intense fights without getting repetitive. There is a small problem with the sound synching on the guns but that's the only thing wrong with combat. The world that ME2 is set in is massive, full of interesting characters and side quests that leave you running around densely populated space stations such as Omega and the Citadel for hours just to do a few assignments. The sound and music is amazing and it just adds to the incredible atmosphere that is created when you play ME2, with probably the greatest final mission and endgame of all time that will leave you gasping and hitting the 'New Game' option as quickly as possible.

In conclusion, ME2 is a brilliant Sci-fi RPG that fixes all the problems of its predecessor and its only No.2. With Mass Effect 3 having been recently announced, I'm going to be going back to Mass Effect 2 one last time to say a teary goodbye to a true gaming masterpiece. With Mass Effect winning most Game of the Year awards for 2010 it;s safe to say if bioware can give us a great ending to the game in Mass Effect 3 it will be one of the best series of all time and will be the best three set of games ever.

Mass 2 is one of my favs last year along with red dead and bioshock 2. They all came out the first half of the year, the 2nd half of the year really sucked it up as far as i'm concerned.
