Torchlight

When Torchlight 2 dropped I bought it sight unseen, purely based on the experiences I had with the original Torchlight. Torchlight 2 could not hold my interest. I would not recommend getting Torchlight 2, even if it has co-op over the original which didn't have co-op.

In my opinion, Torchlight is still the ARPG that did everything right (Apart from the lousy heirlooming. Just drop your best gear in the shared stash so you don't gimp your awesome stuff.) The game is still a blast to play and unlike Torchlight 2 offers a more focused experience. In that respect it is much like the original Diablo. No wondering from one thing you might like to do to the next, no fancy classes that don't differ much in the end and you know what you're supposed to do. Get down the dungeon and crack skulls.

The best addition to Torchlight is the Shadowvault, which makes Torchlight an awesome pick up and play title once you've defeated the evil beneath the town of Torchlight. The Shadowvault is an infinite dungeon with quests for each floor. So if you have thirty minutes to kill, fire up Torchlight and clear a Shadowvault floor.

Torchlight has many things that you'll find in Diablo III too, like different difficulties and hardcore play, for a fraction of the cost of Diablo III. On the other hand, it also offers more. It's a timeless game and it's genre, the best experience yet.

I've never played the second one but recently got back into the original after a year or so, and. I. can't. put. it. down.  I've been playing it every chance I get.  Love it.
