Shared on Sat, 04/15/2006 - 13:45Well, unfortunately I was still cell dividing. It wouldnt be until April 21st 1976 that Id come sliding out of my moms birth canal to see the world. However, many gamers here were alive and kicking in 1975 and probably before it.
2o2p Magazine - Issue #3 is about history in gaming and technology. I want you to put on your LSD flashback hat for a second and think about what you spent your time doing for entertainment back then. Hell, before then if its relavent to gaming (not sure how many tetris clones existed on punch-cards but you get the idea).
If you feel like writing, and would like to describe what games existed "back in the day" this will be the time to do it. Youve got until the end of May to get your submissions in, so youve got a good solid 20 days to think about it before putting your thoughts down on paper (yes, I like them submitted early :) ).
Did you own a TI99? What games did you like, how did you feel about that machine? Atari console systems? What was the best game on the market, how much did you pay for it? Did you feel it was worth the money?
Coin-Op was more popular in the 80s, what games were the best deal for the coin? Did you like the Centipede "mouse wheel" interface? Why? Do you think it should be brought back? :)
What Im saying is that issue #3 is going to be a "flashback in time" issue, it will be a strong theme (although other columns will exist). If your currently writing for the magazine, perhaps you can think about how you can integrate your thoughts into something about history. Want to write about halo games? Pick halo I over II or compare/contrast them. You like Xbox 360? What revolutionary steps did they do to make it better then the Colicovision or NES?
You like hand-helds? How have we progressed from the original "green" gameboy screen to the Nintendo DS? Is it all good? Are the games still the same quality?
Into PC games? Zork was nice, or how about 7th guest being one of the first games to come on CD? How did CD games change the gaming market on the PC compared to five and a quarter/three and a half inch floppies? Same game, shorter install time? Or did the games go high in graphics right away? Did they still hold the same quality or was it a bust of eye candy?
Into Mac? You play Lemonade Stand on the Apple IIe? How does that compare to the games you play today like StarCraft on the mac? Same addictiviness with better graphics?
Aracade Gurus- We can use you. Maybe you can tell us a little about old time games, and the golden age of gaming? You cannot shake it so now your building MAME systems? How do they compare now that theyre dated? Or maybe you want to write a little about what mame is and perhaps how to build a mame cabinet for old school gaming dig-dugg style!!
You want to write about an old school gaming company? Take Namco and tell us all about the milestones to their success and what games changed how we play games today.
Our future is highly reflected upon our past and each developer that starts desiging a game today must be thinking in the back of his/her head... "wow, I wonder how I can work in the game style of Spy vs. Spy into this proect"
Write your thoughts, need ideas? email: editor@2old2play.com and Ill set you up the bomb.
