Shared on Thu, 11/23/2006 - 23:49Yeah, my Thanksgiving wasn't so hot. I mean, dinner was fine and all that. However, my father and step-mother, who host it, were not there - my grandmother was sick so they took her to the hospital (apparently she's not been eating and was de-hydrated). So, my brother and I hosted the festivities for a few family members. The night got a bit worse when my aunt called to tell us my grandmother, 86 years old, was diagnosted with Leukemia. Wow. Now that's a bit from the norm eh?
I figured, old people get sick, it happens... and its important to get them to care since they're ... well, old. My grandmother is one of those old ladies that really never gets sick, never had any "old people problems" like heart attacks, strokes, alseimers (don't feel like looking up the spelling) or any of that. She was mowing her own lawn up to a few years ago when we tried to explain to her that it might be best if we got her some help around the house with the heavy stuff. She used to have the garbage man start the mower for her on his drive by to pickup the trash :) She's the only lady I know that, at 86, isn't on at least a few med's to help her out. Then, all of a sudden, she's given 3-weeks to live.
Not sure how my father is doing just yet, I know he's not always "in touch" with his feelings and I only talked with him briefly and he was very "matter of fact" about the estimated time of survival. He lost his father to cancer (I think it was cancer) before I was born and this is the last grandparent I think I've got.
Well, its always nice to talk it out. Gonna hit the sack and head over to the hospital tomorrow.
