GOT PRESSURE?

Yes. Yes I do. I think I've invested roughly 180 hours in web design in the last few weeks (or longer, it seems like forever). I contribute the amount of time I've spent on my wifes e-commerce site on my inability to cut corners.

Luke, or known on the site as BrokenDesign, and I have been up late nights being extremly pickey about the entire site. We may spend ten to twenty minutes shuffling pixels around to make sure everything lines up, has correct color, fits the theme of the site and is clear/intuative for users.

This takes an extremely long time. I took almost a full week off from my "Real Job" to work on the website. Doodi was kind enough to pickup some of my slack for 2old2play's news postings while I sat in a mire of PHP code for sixteen hours a day. I'm finding my real job, coding C++, harder lately because PHP is so burned in my brain.

I spent roughly twelve hours on the checkout screen(s) alone. Entering your address, estimated weights for shipping, credit card selection, checkout over-view, and the final order placing. It was huge. But it was important - nobody wants to get lost trying to purchase a product... that's just not cool. Everything should be clear and concise with minimal to zero distractions on your way to the credit card screen (that's why we're in business right? To get you to charge stuff!).

Hopefully it will be worth it. The holiday season is approaching way too fast and I'm driving on fumes trying to get this site ready before any major games hit the market. We've been contacting distributors to ask about upcoming products (mainly Wii and PS3). They told us the PS3 is "slim to impossible" chance to have for this holiday and the Wii should be "no problem." In fact, they are telling us we'll have them shipped out from the warehouse the Wednesday before product launch - with 2-days shipping we'll have them before they hit retail (I hope). We will continue to hound the reps for more details as the weeks go on.

Whew. Tired.

I used to code for a living, never ever again. I hated the corporate machine, but doing it for your own project... that can be hard because you want it clean and solid, but if your like me a bit anal about how things are, it takes forever to get it right. Im lucky I suck at web design

COdeMonkey - I took some programming classes in school (enough to know I didn't want to program full time) so I understand it is hard work. Sometimes I sit back and smile when people wonder about why certain features aren't in games and such. They have no idea what amount of work and or expense would go into such a 'simple' thing.
