Shared on Sat, 05/24/2008 - 22:40This holiday weekend I've gone back to revisit some of the older PC greats that can still hold their own today:
Painkiller ($10)
Warcraft III ($40 -- battle chest)
Rise of Nations (Demo lets you play unlimited skirmish, so $0)
Civilization 4 ($20)
Total: $70
Not bad. That's a little more than a new 360 or PS3 title. The Zero Punctuation review inspired me to revisit the past.

I'm mainly a console player, so my computer is mediocre by gaming standards; otherwise I'd likely be trying my hand at Crysis, Supreme Commander, and Sins of a Solar Empire. I have been meaning to go to the PC gaming cafe and try these games--especially Sins--but the cafe is a bit far (gas prices) and noisy kids get a bit more annoying as I get older.
I hope you all have a good holiday weekend -- enjoy it
