You've Been Pwned

Hi All,

Well I’ve had time to digest the fact that I’m more a collector than a player and guess what? I’ve probably spent more time playing in the last few weeks than I have for a long time. I finally finished Gears 2 and what a let down. The ending is very weak and overall I think Gears 1 is a much stronger game.  I think for Gears 1 the designers started with the idea of, “ok, what would be really fun and exciting” and built the game around a number of outstanding and original set pieces. In Gears I think the plan consisted of “right, the game must be longer than the first therefore how can we fill in a segment of 15 minutes, then have a segment of 20 minutes, then…etc etc”.  In effect they just put in more enemies with longer sections that just got boring trying to finish. I’m sure others will have different opinions.

Another game that I’m very nearly finished (the final boss I think) is The World Ends With You. I’ve been playing it slowly for months now. Thinking about it, its hard to describe or discuss without giving away spoilers but suffice to say it’s extremely original and worth playing. I can see it wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea and admittedly I was about 50% through the game before I got semi-happy with the combat system. I think I have a bit of levelling up to do but hopefully I’ll see what happens to Neku and Co soon.

I’ve also been playing a bit of MW2 with some 2euro2play clan members. As I’ve said it’s the first COD game I’ve played and its okay, but I’m not sure if I’ll stick with it. I can hold my own on most maps but sometimes the gameplay just seems a bit pointless. I’ve actually quit a couple of times to go back to BF1943. I much prefer the goals and pacing of that game.

Finally, great news, a new pawn shop has opened where I live (does that statement say a lot about me?). Much cheap games ahoy! I picked up Suikoden Tactics and FF10 for PS2 and Capcom Fighting Jam and Capcom vs SNK EO on Xbox last week for €4 each. Nice. The frustrating thing though was that neither Xbox game works on my 360. I thought at least one would. Still maybe I can pick up a cheap Xbox there soon.
