No Sleep....

Well I'm a Dad. Ben was born on May 18th, 8 lbs 10 oz, 21 inches long. My wife called me that Tuesday around Noon at work saying she had not felt the baby moving all morning. Now a week prior we had the same thing and the Doctor sent us to the hospital for monitoring. Everything was fine and they sent us home after 4-5 hours. Theresa didn’t want to seem she was overacting so she did what they told us to do that week prior and drank a ton of water. Still nothing. Around 1:00 she calls and says the doctor wants us to go in for monitoring. Well we didn’t think anything of it and go in thinking we'd be home in a couple hours.

Everything seemed okay for the first 1-2 hours, but then the nurse comes in and started an IV. She says the Doctors are in a C-Section and she wants to wait for them to come out but from what she is seeing they should start an IV for fluids. After the doctor comes in, she shows us that Ben's Heart Rate was dropping randomly. He would move, then his HR would drop. Because of that they thought he might be tangled and cutting off his own circulation. So the Doc said that they wanted to do an Ultrasound to see what was going on. Not 2 mins later they came right back in and said "Never mind, we are taking him out now. Since he is 36 weeks, it will be safer to just take him out". I asked how much time we had until the surgery, since we had to do a C-Section, and they told me 1/2 hour. I went from having at least 3 weeks to become a Dad to 1/2 hour within 3 seconds. After that it was CRAZY. Doctors and nurses running around, throwing me scrubs. During the surgery they found that the Placenta ruptured. It was a blessing Theresa knew to come in, otherwise it would have been bad for her and Ben.

About 1 1/2 hours later, Benjamin was born. Now almost 3 weeks later, everyone is doing great. Theresa is healing good, moving around more and more each day, and Ben is keeping us up every 2 hours. I am still amazed this has happen to me. I could not be luckier.
