H3 Believe Ad Music

Last night for the umpteenth time I saw the Halo 3 Believe Diorama ad and, also for the umpteenth time, I thought, "I wonder what the music is and if it's an O'Donnell original piece."

Well this time, I got smart and used the intarwebs. Turns out the music played during the ads isn't a Marty original at all. It's actually the middle section of Frederic Chopin's Prelude in D Flat Major, Op. 28 No. 15 ("Raindrop"). Oddly enough, I have this track on one of my classical piano CDs that I never bothered to encode to mp3. Until now. Unfortunately, this is making me want to pick up piano again, which I haven't played since I was 8, but find I miss 22 years after the fact.

So if I end up going out and buying a piano and taking lessons again, I'm blaming the Halo 3 marketing.

That great though. I always wanted to learn the piano. It's great that you are taking it up again. It impresses the shit out of babes, and Mike James, he actually gets wet when he hears Rachmaninoff.

Wonder if I can get the sheet music to the bits of the Halo 3 score that are predominately piano based? Hmmm.

just an aside, the recently released game Eternal Sonata is about Frederick Chopin, its an RPG and feature alot of his music. I think the first chapter is even called Raindrops. I really enjoyed the game and wasn't very familiar with Chopin before I played, I'd only heard of him a few times, so if you are a Chopin you may enjoy it.

As an addendum to my post: I did stop playing piano when I was 8, but I was involved in choir since 5th grade so, hopefully, picking up piano again wouldn't be as difficult as someone who abandoned it and never looked back, I think. Thanks to maintaining some musical courses in school, I still can read sheet music well (there's some bits I have to study to remember, but not much), and I remember the scales almost natively. I'm going to look around today at our nearby piano shop and see if they have any upright electric pianos. Not fancy keyboards or sequencers, but an upright that is the same size as a piano, just doesn't require constant tuning (and is about 1/4th the price).

I always wished I could play the piano. Of course not enough to overcome my wish to not have to spend a lot of time practicing. :)

I used to loathe practicing when I was a kid, but looking back on it, I don't think it was terribly bad. The scales were probably the worst, but now that I'm older I understand why they're drilled. Of all the things I spend time on as an adult now, I think allocating some time to piano practice, and eventually playing, might end up being a theraputic time expenditure.
