Gears 3 Fanboys

In this particular blog/rant I would like to address a few issues:

1. Expectations vs Realism

2. Track Records

3. Epic Bullshit

4. Fanboy Denial

5. Why I'm always right

I'll try and keep this short and to the point as much as possible so let's get to it.

Expectations vs Realism - The fact that Epic has always promised bigger, better, badder in everything they have ever done automatically creates what's known as the Hype Machine. You sell a product that thousands of people adore and when you're trying to improve upon that product you promise the "next level of awesome" and it drives people into a whole new dimension of hysterical fantasy land. Couple the Hype Machine with Forum chatter and you get the Rumor Mill! Now, we all had some grande-oso (sp?) ideas of what could have been in the second installment of Gears. We all formulated, postulated, and masterbated at the mere thought of next level pwnage! Then, we got Gears 2...ugh...what a let down. Even after -6- patches the game still isn't fun for most people other than the hardcore fans. What's hard to realize is how easy it is to get caught up in the Hype Machine & Rumor Mills and not even realize you're not getting a reach-around. Let's look at some facts for Gears 3 real quick shall we? First of all, DEDICATED SERVERS! YES! OUR PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED! Well, sort of. Some of you may have already read the article from 1Up or even seen the post on the Gears Forums within this website that I posted. If you haven't, I will post it at the bottom. It's an interview with Cliffy B. defining the real story behind the servers. Yes there will be servers BUT, there's also going to be client-server hosting just as there is now. I'm not going to force my opinions on anyone but, I will include them and let you formulate your own. Next, SHOTGUN IS FIXED! Well, define fixed. If you're still looking for that shotgun from Gears 1 then no, it hasn't been fixed. If you want to know what the shotgun is going to be like then play Gears 2. This has been the platform for much of the content that is being implemented into Gears 3.

Track Records - After Gears 1 was released and well into it's lengthy MP life, the announcement of Gears 2 came tumbling down. Promises such as: no more glitches, balanced weapons, better gameplay, and NO MORE LAG were some of the biggest sales pitches of the time (Intro Hype Machine and Rumor Mill). It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the game was FILLED with glitches, horrible balancing, gameplay problems, terrible lag, and hosting issues. Gears 2 MP numbers fell dramatically and it never made the #1 spot on XBOXLIVE. Gamers were bailing on Gears 2 and reverting back to Gears 1. So here we are again, same promises as before but, will the outcome be different? It's hard to say at this point in time. It's also hard to believe someone who's telling you the exact same thing the second time around after getting burnt so badly the first time. I swear there's an old saying about this sort of thing. :)

Epic Bullshit - Epic always claims it's all about the fans. I call bullshit. Perfect example, people hated the fucking smoke grenade to the point all the crying and whining on the forums led to several patches trying to fix the smoke grenade until Epic finally gave up and just made it the same as Gears 1. So guess what's a good idea for Gears 3? A CONCUSSIVE SMOKE GRENADE! And what's even funnier, they're acting like it's something new! So how is this listening to the fans? People hated the shotgun in Gears 2 so why not bring back the shotgun from Gears 1? I could honestly go on and on but, this is getting out of hand!

Fanboy Denial - There's one subject that is driving me crazy and I can't wait for September to get here just so I can sit back and laugh, dedicated servers. People are claiming this is going to be the end-all fix for this game and that Gears 3 will be the ultimate experience ever! Truth is, there's still going to be host advantage because of the client-server setup we are currently using in Gears 2. Not every game is going to be played on servers and that is just a FACT. So let's stop saying "that will be fixed with the dedicated servers" because honestly, that is a pile of shit.  Again, I don't need to post my opinions but, if I get a hair up my ass I just might break down the economics and drop some motherfucking knowledge! :D

Why I'm always right - I can't help it I was just born that way. DEAL WITH IT BITCHES!

i want Gears3 to be just as great as Gears1 but i doubt it will be, the shooting delay is what killed the series for me. apparently its still in Gears3 so most likely im not going to like what they did. i am in the beta though so well see...

I never was much interested in GOW. But what I've seen in footage as of late for GOW3, I must say it looks very interesting. I'm going to closely follow the news for GOW3 leading up 20-9. I kinda feel like I might enjoy this installment, though I'm pretty late to the party. Maybe me going in fresh has me look at it with different eyes.

Well hey look at it this way, if it doesn't live up to the hype, they'll hear about it during the beta.

Tank I'm hoping for the best but, I'm really expecting the least. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
