Confessions of an Acheivement Slut

I'm an Achievement slut.  There. I said it.  I'm not a whore.  Banjocut is a whore.  Blublud is a whore.  Hell, even Zorbs is a whore.  These guys have 60, 90 and 100K plus scores and will apparently play any game to get them.  I still have less than 15k so I'm not really a whore just yet.  I'm more like that chick who wants to put out, and will if it's easy, but I'm not making a career out of it.

I came to this epiphany last night.  I subscribe to GameFly (highly recommended btw) and they recently sent me a copy of Resistance 2.  I've heard mixed reviews on it but it looked sorta interesting and I've played virtually 0 games on my PS3.  I received the game about 2 weeks ago.  I have yet to even open the envelope.  I just can't seem to get up the desire to.  Then I realized why.  No Achievements.

Yeah, yeah, they have "trophies" now but so what.  None of my online game friends have "trophies" for me to compare to.  I suppose maybe a couple do but not enough for me to really get into it.  Besides that little green lined box that pops up throughout the game when you're playing is like candy on cake.  It's like a virtual pat on the back.  Maybe I don't get enough real life pats. Maybe, all I know is that I like it.  I like the feeling it gives me and I like the way it gives me that "notch on the bedpost" moment throughout my gaming experience.

Like I said, it's not such an addiction (yet) that I'm at full blown "whore" level.  I sorta hope I don't get that far down the trail.  I have a feeling it could get really expensive and make me really obsessive.  For my money though the Achievement feature of the XBL experience may be the most ingenious thing ever implemented in gaming.
