Now THAT was a pretty good day

That day being yesterday.  For those who don't frequent site chat, I've been patiently (at least I'd like to think I've been patient) awaiting a promotion since last fall.  In actuality, my boss has been hinting at it for far longer than that, but late in the summer she told me she was reworking the career tree in our department, and I'd be getting a boost because of that review.  In fact, I was looking at a two level bump (one upgrade in the title, but two salary levels).  W00t I say, w00t.

As time went on, a series of fubars (lost paperwork, HR supporter going on maternity leave, etc) delayed and delayed it.  However, she assured me that when it did finally go through the necessary red tape, it would be retroactive to August 1st.  So I waited.  And I waited.  And waited.  Until yesterday. Yesterday was the first day she was back in the office, and I went on the offensive.  Patient had run its course, so I broached the subject directly.  After the standard "Let me call XYZ and get back to you today" I relented.  Unbelievably, it worked.  Mid-afternoon yesterday I was handed the paperwork...

...and frowned.  First, title didn't change.  That was because only one level of the salary grade was approved.  And, to top off the nut kick, effective date is November 1st.

However, instead of picking up the keyboard and hitting the boss over the head with it, I looked up for an explaination...and got a doosey.  Yes, she couldn't get the two grade bump approved.  However, I received the same % increase that I would have received if she did.  W00T #1.  Then, contrary to my understanding, my bonus was not tied to the title (manager vs. assoc director) but instead to the pay grade.  That one level increase moved me from a 15% bonus to a 20% bonus.  WOOT #2.  And to put the cherry on the cake, her intention - and already approved my our department VP - is to promote me again during our mid-year reviews to the next level, which will bring with it another increase.  WOOT #3!  Oh wait...I forgot the jimmies...she also dropped a hint (really a straight tell, but officially she can't remark on it) that I'm looking at a favorable review on Thursday for 2007, and will see an Exceeds Expectation rating - which adds a 125% multipler to the annual bonus.  WOOT I've lost track!

The day was solid even outside of work - I had a good workout in the morning, and my eldest son gave a great winter concert (he plays trombone) at the Middle School that night.

So, I suppose if I had to be Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, yesterday would have been a good day to get stuck with for eternity.
