Sunday, I went out to the local home improvement store to get a patio table, we had 2 chairs on our deck, but without a table, we just didn’t use the deck too much. So, I get the table home and start assembling it when I hear the cats have a short fight then about a minute later, the sound of water running……then a short BZZZZZ! And POP!!! I run to the sound to see our cats….Bela, has Piede trapped on top of the bedroom TV, apparently he chased her out of the litter box and on to the top of the TV (which was sitting on my dresser). While up there she decided to finish her business that was so rudely interrupted….yup, Piede peed on top of the 13 year old 25” CRT TV/DVDVHS combo in our bedroom. So, I tried to turn it on, and the picture came right up….but the right speaker wasn’t working, the DVD was totally screwed and I don’t even have a VHS to test the tape deck.
So, I went to pick up my wife (who was visiting her best friend) and we went off to Best Buy, and less than 10 min. later, walked out with another 37” LCD (just like the one we have in the basement). Flush mounted it to the wall, and hid the cords. Now if the cat pisses on top of this one, she'll find herself locked in the basement for the rest of her life.
Yesterday we learned that my sister has started the process of adopting a child. She has chosen to adopt from Ethiopia, so after about an hour of making Starvin Marvin jokes, and jokes about how there will finally be someone in the family who can play basketball, and run track, or be taller than me (currently the tallest person on my father’s side of the extended family at 5’8”) we got down to the details. I was actually quite surprised at the issues associated with adopting. Europe, with the Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Any Muslim country only permitting a man to make the request in court where they have to swear to raise the child as Muslim (and sometimes require them to convert to Muslim to adopt at all), Columbia which requires you to spend 6 weeks living in the country, China, with their long wait list and strict financial requirements. Not to mention the number of countries that won’t let you adopt from them simply because we are Americans.
So, if anyone has any experience/stories about adopting from a foreign country, warnings, hints, or anything that can help her make this a smooth process; please let me know so I can pass them on to my sister.
Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go learn Amharic just in case they get a kid who is old enough to speak.
