No not the sewer dwelling Fluke worm man, but the kid who was shocked by lightning and could then destroy electronics with his mind.  From my previous post you know about our poor Alienware laptop….still trying to find the time to work on it. Well, yesterday we get home to a dark house…..friggin power outages! Well, mid way through cooking supper on the grill, the power comes back on.

So we run the normal checks, TV-ok, Xbox-ok, Laptop-still not working (but it was worth a shot), so I reset all the clocks and we sit down to watch my favorite episode of Star Trek TNG (Q Who- the first appearance of the Borg) when I notice something….it is 85 degrees inside…..reset the Thermostat, check the breakers, check the solenoids and transformer in the central air conditioner… NO GO, she’s dead Jim!  It’s either a capacitor or the compressor …..  if it is a capacitor the repair should only run $120-$150 (I think) if it is the condenser more like $475-$650(at a minimum). If it is the condenser, this will mean our attempts to attend the LAN will officially be at an end.
Then this morning, the Shuttle that takes me from the parking garage to work breaks down, my phone dies, and my arthritis is making my hands feel like they are on fire……I’m starting to think I picked up a gremlin somewhere along the line. I hope I can get rid of it before I'm crushed under a falling piano.

Looks good for the capacitor...it is rusted all over and appears to be leaking. The down side I'd the only place local that has them is the service contractor...atleast they will have to dispose of the old one.

I had a similar "when it rains it pours" week of fun a few months back. Take comfort in the fact that there's only SO much that can break down before everything is broken. They suck but they pass. Hopefully yours passes soon.

Look at the capacitor first. It usually expands on the end when it goes.
