Escaping My Insanity

It’s odd, I feel like I’m moving through water, everything is slowed down and it just feels like it takes me a bit extra effort to get through my normally effortless work. I’m exhausted, haven’t been sleeping at all, in fact its been about 48 hours since the last real sleep I’ve had. Now this is not for lack of trying, I lay in bed from midnight to about 5:30 when we normally get up, and just can’t seem to get anything out of it. Normally I get 3-4 hours of sleep, more if I’ve had a drink or two, or if I could sleep in.

Is it the caffeine? No, can’t be, I’ve actually cut down to one Red Bull and one pot of coffee a day.  My nightly scotch has been replaced by tea or water. My stress levels at work are at an all time low, I’ve even been burning through other people’s work because I’m bored……or is it everything combined, I’m not tiring myself out anymore….

Anyway, this whole lack of sleep thing has givin me a chance to boost my gamerscore…now at 72,812…..yes I know, I’m nolonger at an even score…..but I plan to remedy this…there is only one more achievement that I MUST get in Viking….learn all special moves for 18points….now I may need to go through 3 more major battles to get to the point where I could get those 18 points….but oh well…
Now, on to my first impressions of Red Faction; Guerilla…..
The opening plot is very straight forward….you arrive on mars, and your brother drags you into the rebellion against the EDF who are currently ruling Mars with an iron fist.
You get to spend the first few min. running around a small research base breaking stuff…it’s a lot of fun. But after that, the game rapidly progresses into a gameplay that is similar to Mercenaries 2, a big sandbox game, where you collect some items, mine ore, and fight the EDF at every opportunity. While I wanted to beat the game before I got into the multiplayer, I do see a lot of hours being sucked into this game…but semi limited replayability on the campaign…

One very nice addition to the game, they have adopted the Valve approach to achievement tracking, under the start menu you can see the % and quantity of completion for the multi part achievements….and for some of the multiplayer ones. This is

invaluable to an achievement hunter like me, I can’t for the life of me figure out why more developers don’t do this….
anyway, I have high expectations for the multiplayer and the campaign….
