Shared on Wed, 05/19/2010 - 09:50Just received my notification that I have yet again been rejected for promotion….combine that with the continuation of pay freezes, layoffs coming at the end of next month, and having my job title changed to something that makes my job sound like something a retarded monkey could do, and I’m having one awesome week. It is getting to the point where I could quit my job, reapply for the lowest level position I can (they are still eligible for raises) and I would be making more money than I currently do by the end of November. Makes me wonder why I bothered to get a degree in the first place.
But there is a light at the end of the tunnel….for a few reasons. (Provided I don’t get laid off, suffer pay cuts, or (like last year) be forced to work without pay.)
One…. http://www.troegs.com/brewfest/ YES!!! Harrisburg Brewers Fest! For just $40 Per tax deductable ticket, you get 3 1/2 hours of free, all you can drink beer!
Two….The week before that is the Harrisburg Knife and gun expo. This year I hope to not spend as much money as I did the last time….but hey, if it’s a deal, who am I to say no?
Three….excitement for the 2o2p LAN. This is the only thing that will get me through July, the thoughts of meeting a lot of you, taking a long weekend and getting shitfaced with friends! Oddly enough, I have never done this before, not just a LAN, but going out and drinking with friends. Yes, I’ve been completely wasted in the past, but it was always just me and my wife….this will be breaking new ground for me, and I can’t wait.
Four….Finishing the basement. This project has been running for 4 years. and we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Yes, the final steps will be a major punch to the financial gonads, but at this point it’s worth it just to have something to show for all that work..
So, four good points to combat the utter disgust I feel about myself every other day of the week. I know, a job is a job, but when you get paid to do work that you are morally opposed to while working for people who hate you with a passion, the good things seem to lose their luster.
