Why are we seeing what we are seeing with clan issues? Simply enough, rules change things. I’m not saying rules are bad, I’m not saying they are good. We are all here because of a rule, “Rule #1; No gamers under 25”. Now there is a new rule, “Rule #2; no rules, except rule #1” (there are some others such as no racism, harassment, ect. but sadly those are absolutely necessary to keep the site fun).
I understand some of the attraction of a clan like PCP, you are playing military videogames, why not set up the clan with the precision of a military operation? Precision organization, ranks, assigned rolls, and lots of rules to maintain order and keep the group running like a well oiled machine. To some people gaming is a serious thing, you play to win, after all winning is more fun than getting your ass handed to you. You work on strategy and execute a multiplayer battle with military precision. (I know, I played against PCP in some clan v. clan matches, they are good, well organized, and all stick to their rules.) To others rules are something that gets in the way of having fun. Sometimes I want to be a sniper, other times I want to go nuts with a shotgun and LMG, sometimes I want one type of game, and sometimes I want the other.
I actually would have joined PCP to satisfy my occasional need to operate in a structured environment, however the ‘one COD clan’ rule meant I would have been unable to enjoy the fun team killing, using martyrdom on hardcore mode, or cook a grenade until it blows up while sitting in a bunker with your entire team that I enjoy with other clans. The other issue would have been my schedule, I LOVE Call of Duty, but I also like Halo, Bioshock, Mass effect, ect. Often I will skip clan nights because its not the game I want to play that night. I like my clans to understand that. However, if I want to play MW2 in multiplayer, I want to crush Timmy’s with my clan mates, I want to know that my clan mates will be playing that game too.
The quest for controlled, ordered, organized security vs. the need for freedom, chaos, or a really, really funny team kill. You might as well post the argument as Coke Vs. Pepsi, Call of Duty vs. Battlefield, Ford vs. Chevy, Ann Hathaway vs. Gwyneth Paltrow, Olivia Munn vs. Jessica Chobot, (and for the Ladies, and Lala) Denzel Washington vs. Alexander Skarsgard.
In the end we are all looking for something different, it’s just a matter of finding it and being willing to withstand the criticism, or refraining from criticizing. So, who’s to blame? Both sides? Neither side? heck, lets just blame me, afterall, I'm here. (and no I dont' have anything better to do than post my opinions here)
