The clan request is in.

For those interested, I’ll start my updates here on my blog.
Since my wife and I work in the same office we get to watch over each other’s diet and push each other to meet our goals. This month we have had an added push, our office is holding a “biggest loser” competition (and while most of the people I work with are GIANT losers this is the weight loss kind of “biggest loser”) the top 3 losers based on % of weight lost in a month gets prizes, not sure what prize it will be but I intend to be the winner.

Weighing in Monday for this competition I was 226 on their scale (I was wearing heavier clothes at the time but normally average 220-225 on our Wii fit) this morning I weighed in at 218 in shorts and a t-shirt. that’s 2 pounds lighter than I have been in the past 6 months. Only 18lb to go to my first goal of 200 pounds (and when my wife and I lose 10% of our starting weight, we buy a PS3)

So what do I do for a workout?

I have a one mile walk from where I park to our office, I use to take a shuttle, but not anymore, now I walk trying to keep a 10mph pace. It is a hard push while wearing a coat and tie but manageable, with this weight loss challenge being set up in my office (both my wife and I are signed up for it) I have started taking the stairs anytime I can (including once during lunch just to get in the extra exercise….I know it’s normally not much but we work on the 9th floor. I have also started working my abs hard with crunches not even bothering to count I just push myself until I can’t go anymore.

Friday I may go shopping for a Russian kettle bell and perhaps ankle weights for that added challenge on my walk in.

I'll get into my diet changes tomorrow

I was thinking we can also do little challenges... example: Week 1: Eat before you go grocery shopping and do the following: buy 8 different fruits and veggies. Don't even go down the junkfood aisle. If there is a label: read it. Think twice before buying anything over X% fat or Y% sugars stuff like that...

@J-cat, I love it. after all, I'm finding it is the little things that can make a big difference in keeping weight off as opposed to just losing it.

I'm trying to sort out an exercise routine that will fit into my schedule. Like I said before I only want to drop about 10-15 pounds. I'm currently 210 lbs. and 6'2". My problem is: 1. I get up at 7 AM get the kids ready for school and pre-school, and get ready and eat breakfast by 8 AM to leave for work. 2. Sit behind a desk 8-9 hours of the day. 3. Get home around 6 PM, fix dinner when I walk in the door. Eat and spend time with the kids until about 9 PM. 4. Spend time with the wife until 10PM, which has never had to workout a day in her life and is 5'8 and weighs 110 ilbs, She also has a snack nightly, which I try to avoid, but you know how that goes. 5. I try to get a little game time in on 360 or PS3. Some back info. I quit soda about 8 months ago, I only drink water. I eat fairly well and try to have reasonable portions (i.e. when we do eat out at say Outback, I will cut the steak and potato in half and take the rest for dinner the next night). I am 40, and my family is prone to diabetes, so I try and watch sugar intake as well. I rarely even salt anything, and have 1 to 2 fruits a day. I take 9 vitamins a day, as well. I'm thinking I'm going to have to start getting up an hour earlier, but I'm afraid that won't be very likely. Any suggestions??? BTW, my wife says she wants to workout, but it's always tomorrow, or when it's a little warmer, etc.....

@TKBosss, exercising doesn't have to be a big production with preparation and proper attire, just taking a walk over lunch can do wonders for starting out. and you have one of the best exercise tools there is, kids. those little balls of energy will run you all over the place if you let them. Throw a frisbee with them in the back yard, the fun thing about that is the worse you are, the more exercise you get from it. I intend to use my and my wife's hobby of photography to get in our exercise. we're picking a few places to go where there is no easy access and it takes a lot of walking. For your wife, that's up to you, every woman is different, you could try putting off taking out the trash telling her you'll do it tomorrow, then when she confronts you on it, tell her she gets away with it for her exercising.....but I know if I tried that with my wife I'd be sleeping on the couch until "tomorrow"....so I'm not touching that one with a 10' pole.

@Caesar I have noticed that I lose weight easier when I eat a small breakfast vs. when I don't eat any. I'm also not as hungry later in the day. Granted, everyone's body and metabolism is different.
