The joys of rural life

I live way outside town, nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away and I only have 2.  Anyway, we plant a watermelon patch every year way out in the pasture next to my house and have a bit of a problem with deer and coyotes digging in them.  Anyway, I'm lying in bed last night and hear a thumping.  Get up, go outside, and keep hearing it, but can't figure out what it is.  Then I realize, my father in law went ahead and bought a noise maker.  Not just any noise maker, but one that uses propane gas.  A 5 gallon tank will power this thing for 17 days and it has a timer on it to control the frequency o

How old am I?

Last August marked 20 years of wedded bliss between the wife and I.  But Bama, you say, you're way too young to have been married that long.  Well, let me tell you, down here we get married like we vote, early and often.  Well, maybe not the often part for me.  In any case, our son was starting at Auburn and our daughter was starting school so we didn't do anything special.  We did make a pact that we would do something to celebrate at some point.  That point is almost here.  Bought our plane tickets to Vegas for the first week in April.  The wife has never flown before, so that will be fun

Help!!

My father-in-law's desktop computer hard drive died. Not only died, literally smoked. He got another and it works fine except it won't go to Yahoo. I took it back to factory, uninstalled Norton, set privacy levels as low as possible, disabled windows firewall, get IE can't display the page. The real pisser is I can unplug his ethernet cable and plug it into my laptop that is set up the same way and it pulls up fine. We took the computer back to Best Buy and they plugged it into their network and it pulled up fine.

Modern Warfare WTF?

So like most people, I looked forward to MW3 with a little "ho-hum" attitude.  Knew I was going to get it, knew it would be my main title for the next year, knew I was going to play with friends and have a good time.  Get the game, finish the campaign, dive into MP.  First TDM match, 5 and 21.  By the third match, I knew I was in trouble.  After 2 weeks, my kdr was .86.  I have played the last 4 cod games and never had a kdr under 1.  So what the flying fart is different?  My clannies are going to read this and moan, "Here goes Bama whining about his tv again."  Well, it's true, I did go fr

My wife's game plan

My wife informed me of the "game plan" for watching the Bama vs LSU game tomorrow night.  To be honest, all I heard after "game plan" was "blah, blah, blah".  The fact my wife has a game plan for watching a game is just flabbergasting.  She's always proclaimed to be a Bama fan but never had any interest in watching a game until our son played 5 years of high school football.  Before you draw any dumb southerner conclusions, he played JV and varsity one year.  Now she's calling the refs names, calling out players for bonehead plays, even suggesting plays to Nick Saban.  And she's a little lo

Gears = soccer

Been trolling the public Gears forum lately and reading a lot of strategy tips that would be very helpful to a normal person.  I'm not normal, I suck at Gears.  It's my favorite game to suck at, but I'm really bad.  Everybody's gun is more powerful than mine, everybody's aim is better, etc.  I honestly don't understand it, been gaming for 30+ years and have never been this bad at a game.

Football!!

College football starts in about 3 weeks.  I am back to being a full-fledged, unashamed Auburn fan, especially now that a significant portion of my salary goes to the school and surroinding area.  Moved my son up there last Friday, he's pledging a fraternity and everything.  Anyway, it looks like the best Auburn can do this year is 7 and 5.  As favorably as the schedule set up last year, all those home games against tough opponents last year means playing at their house this year.  Between that, losing all those players to the NFL, and the fact that everybody knows what Gus Malzahn is all a

I realize that most of you can't relate, but my oldest graduates high school Friday.  It's a very small private school so we've had an honors program, class night, a baccalaureate (attendance mandatory), and graduation night is Friday.
